5 Reasons Liverpool Should Pursue Robert Lewandowski This Summer
Liverpool fans have had to sit through a mighty uncomfortable season, a season in which Everton sits above them in the league.
Granted, the Reds came away with the Carling Cup (along with entry into the Europa League), but it just doesn't feel like enough.
This is largely due to, on top of some glaring midfield issues (see: Stewart Downing has proved to be useless), Liverpool's horrible in-front-on-goal performances. Liverpool scored only 47 times in the league from 505 total shots.
Abysmal.
Enter Robert Lewandowski.
The Polish playmaker, who currently is on the books at Borussia Dortmund, could prove to be the answer to Liverpool's attacking woes.
Here are five reasons why Lewandowski could be a godsend at Anfield.
The Price Tag
1 of 5John Henry has oodles of money, as evidenced by Fenway Sports Group's spending of around £100 million to lure the likes of Andy Carroll, Luis Suarez, Stewart Downing, and the like to Anfield.
What's £15 million to get Dortmund's leading scorer?
Granted, his transfer value will have gone up due to his finishing third on the scoring sheets in the Bundesliga, but if John Henry is willing to throw £35 million pounds at Andy Carroll, and £20 million at Jordan Henderson, then snatching Lewandowski up from Germany could very well be a steal.
He's Young
2 of 5At only 23-years-old, Lewandowski fits in perfectly with Liverpool's recent "buy them young" policy.
Being a proven goalscorer at that age, unlike Carroll and Henderson, can only be an added bonus.
He has yet to hit his full potential, despite scoring 22 goals this season in Germany. Anfield could very well be where Lewandowski peaks.
He Would Be a Much Better Strike Partner for Luis Suarez Than Andy Carroll
3 of 5This season has seen a drop-off of form for Suarez, but he was still the catalyst for a lot of Liverpool's attacking forays this season.
He would've played much more effectively if he had a competent strike partner.
Suarez almost single-handedly carried Liverpool at times. A player like Lewandowski playing alongside him would've taken part of the load off.
A strike partner with whom he can pass and move with, a player who can hold the ball up to give Suarez time to make his famous darting runs would have given the Liverpool attack a lot more potency. Look at how Nikica Jelavic revolutionized Everton's forward progress.
Lewandowski could be Liverpool's next catalyst.
Bayern Munich Is Knocking
4 of 5Bayern Munich reportedly asked about acquiring the Polish dynamo in April, with Dortmund replying with a resounding "nope."
That move makes zero sense, considering Bayern has an attacking option at every position on the field, and with Mario Gomez in red-hot form.
Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp has said that Lewandowski is not for sale, but with the right amount of money, Liverpool could pry him away, especially with a much more in-form club such as Bayern calling.
He Is a Reliable Goal Scorer
5 of 5Most importantly, Robert Lewandowski is a natural poacher in front of net.
As I mentioned before, his 22 goals this season helped Dortmund win the Bundesliga for the second year in a row.
That's almost half of Liverpool's entire goal tally for the season.
The Bundesliga is not a soft league either, so I can see him fitting seamlessly at Anfield and the demanding play of the Premier League.
As a Liverpool fan, it was a stab of pain every time I saw the ball go wide, or hear it ricochet off the woodwork. It's time management stepped in and went after a proven goal scorer. Robert Lewandowski could be the one to answer Liverpool fans' prayers.
