Why Mayweather vs. Cotto Battle Proves Money Can Handle Manny Pacquiao
If the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto taught us anything, it's that Money will be ready for Manny Pacquiao.
When they fight, or even if they fight, is a whole other question.
After the bout, Mayweather said he is giving his retirement about an "80-20" shot according to Lance Pugmire of the LA Times, saying there is "there is no one left to fight."
I guess in Money's world, the Pac-Man doesn't exist.
Guess what, unlike Mayweather, everyone on the planet wants this fight, and after his win against Cotto, so should Money.
Mayweather proved that despite his recent legal and domestic problems, he can fight.
Although Cotto is no Pac-Man, he is an accomplished fighter who gave Mayweather his toughest test yet. Ringside after the match he told Cotto, "You're a hell of a champion. You're the toughest guy I ever fought."
Although Mayweather was blooded and bruised, he showed his strength late, overcoming an eighth-round barrage by Cotto.
The 35-year-old gave us just another taste of his greatness.
So what does this mean for the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight?
According to Mayweather, absolutely nothing, saying to reporters after the fight: "It's not going to happen." via LA Times
For the rest of the boxing world it means Money will be able to deal with Pacquiao in the later rounds. Rarely does Mayweather have to battle in his fights, something he was able to do against Cotto.
This fight prepared him for the all-out war he'll face against Pac-Man.
Both fighters have now beaten Cotto: Pacquiao by TKO in the 12th and Mayweather by unanimous decision.
So when they put their egos and money aside, the world will be ready.
