Summer Transfer Scenarios: 10 Biggest Out-of-Nowhere Deals That Could Go Down
Leagues and competitions right across the world are coming to a close over the next couple of weeks, meaning that transfer and deals are about to start happening on a day-to-day basis.
There's the deals that we all know will happen, with literally just formalities remaining.
But, just like every year, there will be deals that we never saw coming. We might have thought about them or considered them, but never actually thought they'd come through.
Here's 10 of those deals that could take place during the 2012 summer transfer period.
Junior Hoilett
1 of 10From Blackburn to Arsenal
With Blackburn relegated from the Premier League for next season, winger Junior Hoilett will, in all certainty, be picked up by another club still in the top class.
He is simply too good to be playing in the Championship.
The Telegraph reports that both Arsenal and Tottenham are interested in Hoilett, but with the added attractions of playing Champions League football and Robin van Persie, it will be the Gunners who end up securing his signature.
Christian Tello
2 of 10From Barcelona to Liverpool
With names like Maxi Rodriguez, Joe Cole and Dirk Kuyt all potentially leaving the Reds at the end of the season, there is certainly room (and money) available at Liverpool for Barcelona midfielder Christian Tello.
Tello is on contract at Camp Nou until 2014 but, as some are already suggesting, could be pursued heavily by Liverpool in the transfer window.
If Tello cannot be guaranteed a starting gig for Barcelona, a move to the Premier League may well be on the cards.
Michel Vorm
3 of 10From Swansea to Tottenham
Brad Friedel is old, Heurelho Gomes wants to leave and Carlo Cudicini was exposed against Chelsea in the FA Cup. Thus, it's no secret that Tottenham are looking for a new shot-stopper.
Hugo Lloris' name is being thrown around for the Spurs, but I think they may choose to head to a player that's already proved himself in the English Premier League—Michel Vorm.
Vorm has been linked to Arsenal, but with an already strong duo of goalkeepers, Tottenham may well win the battle over their English counterpart for Michael Vorm.
Didier Drogba
4 of 10From Chelsea to Shanghai Shenhua
With Chelsea only offering a one-year deal and Didier Drogba not settling for anything less than two, the striker could well see himself departing from the Blues this summer.
And whilst reports begin to circle about Drogba finishing up at Camp Nou, I can't quite see that happening. He didn't do himself any favors for that deal in their recent Champions League encounter and doesn't quite fit their possession-based attack either.
What could transpire is a move to Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua, where he would link back up with former Chelsea partner Nicolas Anelka.
Leighton Baines
5 of 10From Everton to Manchester United
With their chances at the English Premier League title, expect Sir Alex Ferguson to make some drastic changes at Manchester United this summer.
One of those could well be Everton defender Leighton Baines. Baines has been linked to Bayern Munich, who tried to sign him in the past, but could end up at the Red Devils—especially considering the age problem that's beginning to occur in Manchester.
Everton aren't in the world's strongest financial position and could well do with the money that the Red Devils would throw their way for Baines.
Dirk Kuyt
6 of 10From Liverpool to Fulham
With their best player in 2012 headed to Arsenal next year, Fulham are in desperate need of some creativity and skill in the midfield next year and could well find that in current Liverpool player Dirk Kuyt.
Kuyt's experience, skills, attacking prowess and maturity will go a long way for the Cottages next year, who will be desperate to bring some good news back to the club in the transfer window.
The Dutch international may be on the outer at Anfield, but could find some new life at Craven Cottage under Martin Jol should this deal take place.
Wesley Sneijder
7 of 10From Inter Milan to Manchester United
Manchester United and their pursuit of Wesley Sneijder is like Harry Potter—it just seems to keep dragging on—but it will all come to an end this year as the Red Devils finally get their man.
The price tag and transfer fee issues will be sorted out by Ferguson, who will be excited to bring the German's attacking flair and midfield experience in to his side.
That would give him Sneijder, Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia all as possible wingers for next year and potentially, even the right striker to work with Wayne Rooney.
Milos Krasic
8 of 10From Juventus to Tottenham
Krasic is on the outer at Juventus due to a formation change and will no doubt be open for suggestions as to where he should play in 2012.
Currently in a three horse race for the winger with Chelsea and Fenerbahce, Tottenham are the side that I believe will end up securing his signature—especially considering the Gareth Bale and Champions League qualification debacle and Aaron Lennon's temperamental play.
Leandro Damiao
9 of 10From Internacional to Tottenham
As well as Krasic, Spurs could well find themselves the proud owners of Leandro Damiao, who has certainly impressed in his international and domestic performances.
Damiao's goal-scoring prowess could sit well with a club that's most likely not over their FA Cup drubbing and their potential Champions League qualification result.
Another important factor to remember is the healthy relationship that the Spurs have with Internacional—possibly making this deal a more likely affair. Tottenham brought Sandro through the same route and could well go there again to boost their attack next year.
Hatem Ben Arfa
10 of 10From Newcastle to Inter Milan
With Newcastle set to face a barrage of offers for Demba Ba, Cisse, Tiote and Ben Arfa, somewhere along they'll have to give in and I think that man could well be Ben Arfa.
Juventus have been tracking the Magpies star, as have Inter Milan, and I think the latter could beat out the Juve for Ben Arfa's signature.
This one could go either way, but with his dribbling skills and midfield strength may just be enough to see him finish up at the Italian giants.
