Nebraska Husker News and Notes: Jan. 30, 2009
Nebraska has pulled a scholarship offer for Shawn Bodtmann, causing his coach to take a shot at Nebraska:
"“When he committed to Nebraska, the type of people we are, we commit,” Mike DeAntona said. “We stopped his recruiting. He had other options then, but now we are in a tough spot. This is very disappointing, and to me it’s unethical, particularly to do it to a kid who’s been committed that long.”
Bodtmann, after a senior season injury, lost weight and struggled to match his level of play from a year earlier. In addition, the Huskers face a numbers-crunch to accommodate a sizable class of newcomers and deserving walk-ons like kicker Alex Henery. They only lost 16 seniors on scholarships.
“That and a couple dimes will get you a cup of coffee,” DeAntona said. “I always respected Nebraska and what they stood for. But obviously, there’s a big question mark in my mind now, and there should be in other peoples’ minds, too.”

Walk-on tryouts give students a shot at fulfilling their dreams of being a Husker.
Taylor Martinez is being pursued by teams as a QB.
Cody Glenn’s suspension and cause of the suspension will be weighed in his NFL draft evaluation:
"“Individual clubs will interview the guy and they’ll ask about (the suspension),” Gil Brandt said. “Right straight up they’ll tell him, ‘Look, we’re going to check on what you’re telling us, because we have ways of finding out through our security department what the real answer is.’
“If I’m the area scout for the Dallas Cowboys that covers Nebraska, I’m sure that I’m going to interview him and ask him just what took place and when it took place and why it took place.”

Big Red Network takes a look at a couple of prospects that may fill out the 2009 Recruiting Class.
"Barney Cotton and Bo Pelini both visited Omaha Creighton Prep and Omaha North yesterday to scout for the 2010 recruiting class:
Pelini and Cotton visited the two Omaha schools to inquire more about 2010 prospects Jeff Uher, Nick Mizaur, and Ron Coleman.
Both Uher and Mizaur attended the U.S. Army All-American junior combine in San Antonio this past January, and reportedly had strong showings. Coleman continues to shine on the wrestling mat, as he’s ranked No. 1 in the state in the 275 pound weight class. Coleman will be going for his third consecutive state title next month at the Qwest Center in Omaha.
“They came by and wanted to make sure Ron was coming to their junior day,” North head coach Larry Martin said. “The really just stopped in to say hi more than anything. I know Coach Pelini had a speaking event that he was doing downtown yesterday.”
