Mayweather vs. Cotto Results: Money May's Victory Won't Be Matched for Years
Saturday night’s fight won’t be replicated.
Miguel Cotto challenged Floyd Mayweather more than anyone could’ve imagined. Hopefully, you enjoyed the fight because boxing won’t feature another bout of such high quality for a long time.
Nowadays, only Money May and Manny Pacquiao are the only competitors in the sport capable of producing must-watch hype. Retirement is on Mayweather’s radar. But even if he does fight again, any matchup other than one vs. Pac-Man won’t be able to equal the entertainment of Saturday night’s showdown.
But according to the Washington Post, a dream battle between Mayweather and Pacquiao is exactly that—nothing more than a dream. Pretty Boy defended himself after his latest victory, saying:
"The Pacquiao-Mayweather fight is not going to happen. It’s not my fault. I don’t know where we’re going to go from here because we basically have fought everybody in this sport. I don’t have to fight if I don’t want to.
"
That means the ball is in Pacquiao’s court to pull off a memorable performance. But against Timothy Bradley, the Lieutenant Colonel of the Filipino Army will have to allow his opposition to land a few head shots to make things interesting.
According to Granville Ampong of examiner.com, Bradley has had his eye on a matchup with Manny for a while now, but his priorities are out of whack. Desert Storm dodged Amir Kahn because he didn’t believe it was worth risking a loss for $1.3 million. As a guest on the radio show Leave It in the Ring, Bradley was quoted saying:
“What if I lose then I am out the sweep-stake to fight pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao for 7.5 million dollars.”
Don’t be fooled by Bradley’s undefeated record. Tell me—does that sound like a fighter with the ability to compete with one of the greatest pound-for-pound boxers of all time? Not a chance.
Watch as many Mayweather-Cotto replays as possible. You won’t get you’re entertaining boxing fix for a while.
