Main Event Mafia: What The nWo Was Before Puberty Kicked In

Ron JohnsonJan 29, 2009

I have learned that as you grow up, you have to learn to accept both victory and defeat. Unfortunately, there are some that refuse to grow up completely. There are some that continue to be bullies despite their status.

Those guys happen to be a part of the newest faction to bore us to sleep in professional wrestling: The Main Event Mafia.

Kurt Angle, Kevin Nash, Booker T, Scott Steiner and Sting have joined forces for one simple task: To rule the professional wrestling world...one company at a time.

Unfortunately, all they've managed to do is destroy the professional wrestling world...one company at a time. It's a shame that we have to deal with the regurgitation known as WCW in the form of TNA. Because of these five men, the young up and comers have had to resort to being nothing more than simple punching bags.

It's easy to say that these guys deserve respect, which I will not argue with. But what bothers me about this faction is that they're taking all the attention off of the guys trying to give us the fans what we need: Entertainment and Excitement.

Think back to the days of the Original New World Order (both Black and White & Wolfpack). When these guys were around, they kept us entertained with promos from Scott Hall's infamous surveys to the battle for Sting between the Bret Hart-led B&W and Big Sexy's Wolfpack. Back then, it wasn't just about the money...it was also about the execution factor.

The Main Event Mafia? They have no execution factor.

Let's take their actions over the past two months. The brutal departure of Christian Cage, the injuries to Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Jeff Jarrett, Petey Williams and Brother Ray...even their "takeover" tonight proved that these guys have a lot to learn about being a dominant faction.

Just because your name is Sting doesn't guarantee that you get to call the shots. Just because you have a gold medal from 13 years ago doesn't immediately guarantee you the spotlight. Just because you were a part of one of the most decorated tag team champions in wrestling history doesn't mean that you're the most intimidating guy on the roster. Just because you're a 5x, 5x, 5x, 5x, 5x WCW Champion doesn't mean that you can pull accents out of your ass and expect everyone else to keep pace with it.

And just because you're as old as Ric Flair and been all over the world with every single company out there doesn't mean that I'm going to bowdown at your feet.

If anything, if I were to see you guys on the streets, I would pull a DX Chop out of nowhere, give you the finger and deliver one hell of a Stone Cold Stunner to you goons.

Because, that's pretty much all you are: A bunch of goons.

I don't know whose idea it was to have you guys join forces, but they should go to the deepest, darkest parts of Universal Studios, chop off their manhood and hand them to Awesome Kong to devour.

When the nWo hit puberty, it kept the WCW in tow with WWE for the duration of the time before a majority of them jumped ship to other companies. But TNA is different from WWE. TNA is different from WCW. TNA is a little different from the original ECW.

The company built itself on the backs of guys like Jay Lethal, Eric Young, Samoa Joe and AJ Styles. So shouldn't the company continue to build around those guys...or will they believe that these five stooges will carry the company into the mainstream?

In my opinion, I didn't get into Kurt Angle as a champion in WWE. I didn't really pay much attention to Booker T until his rivalries with The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin. As for Steiner, there's no comment necessary.

As for Nash and Sting, they were a great duo with the nWo Wolfpack in WCW, but when Sting opted to wait for a better deal, that shattered his Hall of Fame career in some sorts. And Nash, I think he's more of a teacher to the young guys than a guy who should keep stepping in between the ropes.

The main reason that TNA is failing to Cross The Line is because of one man: Vince Russo. This moronic, jerkoff douchebag took it upon itself to dig up the old storylines of WCW and try to make them work in Jeff Jarrett's TNA. If anyone remembers Russo, he didn't survive in WWE, and WCW die a slow and painful death. It's no surprise that Paul Heyman does not like this guy, and he warned WWE about bringing him back.

It's partially sad that the only job Russo could get after the Fall of WCW was with one of the characters that he spurned.

In any event, it won't be long before the fans of TNA start watching Grey's Anatomy instead of TNA IMPACT! It's only fair that they provide us with the entertainment that we crave. As much as we love WWE, we would love it more if TNA showed why they don't need another shot of weekly programming. WWE has three shots (not to mention RAW A.M.), while TNA has only its weekly two hour program.

But a word of advice to Jarrett and Dixie Carter: Lose The Mafia-Front Line Storyline and focus on the talent that has a longer shelf life.

But I pose this question to you, The B/R Nation: Is it time for a change in TNA? Or is this the road they need to be on to continue their success?
