2012 Wells Fargo Championship: Players to Watch on Sunday Not Named Tiger Woods
The 2012 Wells Fargo Championship has had its fair share of surprises thus far, namely Tiger Woods' early exit, which was only the eighth of his career.
But fear not, golf fans, there are still plenty of great players to watch this Sunday that will more than fill your appetite for some great golf.
Here are some players who fit that build.
Rory McIlroy
McIlroy is one of the best players in the world at this moment and will always be an interesting watch no matter what tournament he's in.
At two shots back of leader Webb Simpson and coming off a round of 66, McIlroy is within striking distance to take the Wells Fargo Championship on the last day.
With the U.S. Open over a month away, McIlroy can begin building momentum and confidence before the next major. Don't forget: McIlroy had success here two years ago, and he is still very much a favorite down the stretch.
Webb Simpson
Leading after three rounds, Simpson surged to the top of the leaderboards with a 69 on Saturday and has come from nowhere to lead the pack.
He'll be the unknown who's fun to cheer for on Sunday if you choose to support more of an outsider.
It wasn't pretty at some points, but Simpson made his putts when he needed to and should get stronger as his confidence builds. There is nobody who plays better and hits less fairways than Simpson.
Simpson is making himself right at home.
Geoff Ogilvy
While Ogilvy is the furthest back of the golfers I've mentioned, he has been surging and shot a third-round best 65 to move to 10 under and a tie for eighth place.
Ogilvy is still looking for his first win of the year and could use a boost with two majors coming up this summer. The Wells Fargo Championship would be just what the doctor ordered.
What a win Ogilvy would pick up if he can complete this miraculous comeback on Sunday and take the championship. Keep an eye on this hot golfer.
