Kentucky Derby Results: I'll Have Another and Top Horses to Watch in Preakness
The winner of the 2012 Kentucky Derby is I'll Have Another, and after Bodemeister's close, second-place finish, it's clear there are two top horses going into the Preakness Stakes in two weeks.
Here a breakdown of some of the top horses to keep an eye on going into the second leg of the Triple Crown.
I'll Have Another
I'll Have Another ran a beautiful race and it showed this horse's explosive ability to turn on the jets and cook his competition.
Hanging back for much of the race, I'll Have Another turned it on late to catch front-runner, Bodemeister, who didn't have enough left in the tank to fend off a surging I'll Have Another.
The Preakness could be right up I'll Have Another's alley and is just the right length for him to do what he did at Churchill Downs.
I'm convinced this horse has proven it belongs with the best in the sport, and the race at Pimlico could further prove it.
Bodemeister
Bodemeister ran a great race from beginning to end but didn't have enough to finish the race in first, instead placing second.
There's no question now: Bodemeister is a big-time horse and has incredible speed that he can carry nearly from wire to wire.
Had this race been at Pimlico, Bodemeister might've finished in first with the ever-so-slightly shorter track. If Bodemeister races in two weeks, he will be an incredible threat to I'll Have Another's chances at winning again.
Dullahan
Dullahan was considered a dangerous horse before the Derby, and I'll Have Another knows that first-hand. With a late surge, Dullahan made his presence known in this race as a horse to watch down the stretch.
With a slightly shorter track in the Preakness, Dullahan must make his move quicker if he wants to win in two weeks. But still, he has the closing speed to make himself relevant once again.
