2009 Bleacher Report NFL Mock Draft, You Make The Call: Kansas City Chiefs
1. Detroit Lions: Andre Smith; Offensive Tackle, Alabama
With the second overall pick in the 2009 Bleacher Report NFL Mock Draft, the St. Louis Rams select Eugene Monroe; Offensive Tackle, Virginia. The Kansas City Chiefs are now on the clock.
In a tight race with Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree, Eugene Monroe has been selected by St. Louis Rams fans and observers as the number two overall pick in the NFL Draft, effectively replacing Orlando Pace on the left side of the line.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Now we turn our attention to the Kansas City Chiefs, a team in desperate need of an identity. This team is currently without a head coach, but has hired a solid GM in Scott Pioli, formerly of the New England Patriots. Here are what I feel are the top needs for the Chiefs going into the first round of the NFL Draft (In no particular order).
1. Outside Linebacker
2. Defensive End
3. Quarterback
4. Wide Receiver
5. Offensive Tackle
6. Running Back
Now that two straight offensive linemen have been taken off the board, the Chiefs may look for some beef on the other side of the ball, or they may decide that Tyler Thigpen isn't the franchise signal caller they crave. What will the Chiefs do? You make the call, and vote for who you think should be the pick in the poll.
(In no specific order)
1. Michael Crabtree; Wide Receiver, Texas Tech
If the Chiefs brass decide Tyler Thigpen had a good enough first season as the starter to be considered as the franchise quarterback, they could give him another huge target to pair with Dwayne Bowe on the offensive side of the ball. Tony Gonzalez and Larry Johnson could be on their way out of town, and this would be a very sensible pick.
2. Matthew Stafford; Quarterback, Georgia
It might be a long shot to think Stafford could fall this far, but so far in this mock draft he has. If the Chiefs want a franchise quarterback with a big arm and big potential, they need look no further than Stafford.
3. Mark Sanchez; Quarterback, USC
Sanchez is an attractive pick for teams looking for a quarterback because he ran a pro style offense under Pete Carroll at USC. He is excellent out of the play action, and throws maybe the best deep ball of any quarterback in the draft.
4. Aaron Curry; Outside Linebacker, Wake Forest
Derrick Johnson is a stud. Plain and simple. But, the Chiefs have a huge lack of playmakers at any of the other linebacker positions, and it really showed. Curry is the best defensive player in the draft, and if the Chiefs hire Jon Gruden as head coach this could be the most sensible pick.
5. Chris "Beanie" Wells; Running Back, Ohio State
Wells probably will not go this high, but there is no doubt the Chiefs could use his services. Especially if they let Larry Johnson test the market, or leave via trade. Wells is a tough runner with a great second burst of speed.
6. Brian Orakpo; Defensive End, Texas
Orakpo is the best defensive end in the draft, and since Kansas City let Jared Allen leave last offseason, they need another player to rush the opposing quarterback. The former Longhorn star is very versatile, and could have an immediate impact on the Kansas City defense.
You're on the clock Chiefs fans! Vote for who you think should be the third pick in the draft!
