S.M.'s Camping World Update, Issue No. 26
Rumors/News
Randy Moss Motorsports has switched manufacturers from Chevrolet to Toyota and more than likely have Taylor Malsam driving for the team.
They are also working on a deal with Mike Skinner to drive a second truck for the team.
Both Malsam and Skinner were caught up in the Bill Davis Racing buyout by Triad Racing Technologies and released.
The two have been looking for a ride. I hope this gets officially announced shortly and glad to see them with potential rides.
Brian Scott was also caught up in the mess, but rejoined Xpress Motorsports shortly after his release from TRT.
By the way, if you haven't heard, they are supplying only in 2009 and have no plans to race.
David Starr has signed with HT Motorsports. He will be in the No. 24 Toyota, in a second truck, and be a teammate to Terry Cook.
Starr will run on the No. 59 truck's owner points in 2009, and Jason Miller will be his crew chief.
He brings sponsorship with him in Zachry Holdings, Inc. They will be his primary sponsor for 10 or fewer races and will be an associate sponsor for the rest of the season.
Terry Cook will be driving the No. 25 Toyota for HT Motorsports in 2009.
Dennis Setzer has signed a part-time deal with MRD Motorsports to drive the No. 8 Chevrolet and will run 12 races in 2009 with the team.
Setzer's first race will be Atlanta; no other races have been announced by the team.
He's looking to add races to his schedule, but he would love to add the Spring Martinsville race, which he won in 2008.
He's always tough on short tracks, and he's free for the Daytona and Auto Club races.
Connor Cantrell will be driving for MRD Motorsports as a satellite team for Tony Stewart/Haas Racing.
He will make his first test on Mar. 6, debuting at the Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway on Mar. 28 and has sponsorship from American Express/Expedia.com.
Dwayne Gaulding from the Gunbroker.com Motorsports department is a new owner in the truck series. He's forming a two-truck operation; Dodge is the manufacturer and will run the full 2009 schedule.
Jason White is expected to drive one of the trucks; the other driver along with an official announcement will be made any day.
Chad McCumbee and SS GreenLight Racing have announced that he will be driving the No. 07 AsiLimited Chevrolet in 12 races in 2009, starting with the NextEra Energy Resources at Daytona on Feb. 13.
Should additional sponsorship be found, he will run the entire season for the team. McCumbee drove for the team in 2006 and 2007.
He'll have sponsorship in the 12 races from AsiLimited, AKZO Nobel, and Spectrum Metal Finishing.
Brent Raymer has put together his own team to drive in the NextEra Energy Resources 250 at Daytona. He'll drive a Ford truck and in the No. 85.
With sponsorship, Raymer will run more truck races in 2009.
Germain Racing will have Max Papis driving in six truck races with sponsorship from GEICO and no number has been given yet.
His schedule is as follows: Auto Club Speedway of California, Atlanta Motor Speedway, Dover International Speedway, Bristol Motor Speedway, Phoenix International Raceway, and one additional race to be announced later.
Brian Scott will be driving for Venturini Motorsports in the ARCA, Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 race at Daytona on Feb. 7.
He will be teammates with Joey Logano and rookie Ryan Fischer.
News
To update potential changes from NASCAR to help the NCWTS owners.
This is yet to be made official, but according to Jayski.com and Jim Harris from HT Motorsports, it should be an announcement with more details shortly.
NASCAR will limit the over-the-wall crew members to five; teams will have to make two stops to make one regular pit stop.
Teams will have to change tires or fuel and then come back for a second time to change the one that didn't get done the first time.
I like it; at least it will still be some form of a pit stop. You'll still have strategy being played out by the crew chiefs along pit road.
Congratulations to both Andrew Lally and Justin Marks—they are alumni of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
The pair was teamed with R.J. Valentine, Patrick Long, and Joerg Bergmeister to drive the No. 67 TRG Porsche 997 to victory in the 47th running of the Grand-Am Rolex 24 hours at Daytona International Speedway GT race.
A Note from the editor: My next project is an article on Chase Austin and Trail Motorsports. He's a kid that through the 2009 season I will be updating a lot in my Update and with the diversity program in NASCAR being commented on B/R a lot. I wanted to work on an introductory piece on him, but my Economic Truck Series article put me a little bit behind schedule on this. I will be posting it shortly.
