Manny Pacquiao: Pac-Man Must Ignore Mayweather's Rants
Manny Pacquiao isn't getting in the ring with Floyd Mayweather Jr. this weekend, but you wouldn't think that the way "Money" went off about the world's best pound-for-pound fighter.
The two superstars of boxing each have a fight in the next fortnight, but it isn't against one another and they're hardly big draws. Thus, it isn't a surprise that Mayweather is running his mouth about Pacquiao. In fact, he's doing the job of selling his fight with Cotto—someone Pac-Man has already knocked out—by doing so.
The Filipino superstar won't take the bait, though; he's not going to help Money sell his fight.
That is exactly what Mayweather wants, for Pac-Man to fight back. After all, he's the only one accusing Pacquiao of using PEDs. His latest rant against the fighter that he's never fought went like this (via Huffington Post):
"Guess what? It took me years to get to here. Years. Go back and look at the pictures. First, his head is small. Then, all of a sudden, his head just grew? Come on, man. Stop! Stop this man! Come on, man! This (stuff's) so easy. Ray Charles can see this (stuff). Come on. Come on, now! Come on, man. I told you, it's basic common sense. Look at the pictures and tell me this man's head didn't get bigger? This man probably went from a seven and one-fourth to an eight. In a hat, a fitted hat. And you're going to tell me this (stuff) is all natural? Come on, man. Stop this. I'm going up in weight, but I ain't just walking through no damn fighters.
"
Floyd would love for Pac-Man to say something, but he needs to keep his mouth shut and handle his own business.
While a victory over Cotto won't do too much for Floyd, a victory over Timothy Bradley early in June will do something for Pacquiao. Although Cotto is the more popular fighter, Bradley is the better fighter. He's something of an unknown, but he'll be one heck of a test for Pac.
According to a report out of Baguio City, Pac-Man is about "50-60 percent fit" after his two-week training camp there.
Pacquiao has no need to get into a war of words with a fighter who has dodged him repeatedly and is only looking for personal gain from a media frenzy. He needs only to focus on his own fight and prepare, because losing to Bradley at this stage of his career will be worse than never getting into the ring with Mayweather.
