Andy Pettitte Signs One-Year $5.5 Million Deal with Yankees
Sorry I didn’t update the blog yesterday. Let’s get back to business…
Andy Pettitte has signed a one-year contract with the New York Yankees. His base salary will be $5.5 million, but he can make $12 million with incentives. This was a deal that should have been done a long time ago. As much as I wanted Phil Hughes to get the spot, you don’t take any chances.
You can never have too much pitching. Injuries, emergency starts, and other problems can give Phil Hughes a shot this year. I’m sure he will get some time. I’m one of the biggest Hughes supporters out there, and I like this move a lot.
Pettitte is still annoyed about his contract, but he wanted to be a Yankee. I’m happy he’s back. I think this easily gives the Yankees the No. 1 rotation in baseball.
from the LoHud Yankees Blog:
"Base salary: $5.5 million.
Innings bonuses: $500,000 each for 150, 160 and 170 innings pitched and $750,000 each for 180, 190, 200 and 210 innings.
Roster bonuses: $100,000 for 120 days on the active 25-man roster, $200,000 for 130 days, $250,000 each for 140 and 150 days, and $400,000 each for 160, 170 and 180 days.
