Boring Fight Awaits PPV Viewers of Mayweather vs. Cotto in Saturday Night Bout
Boxing events featuring Floyd Mayweather as the main attraction have always been less entertaining than the ones that feature pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao.
This is expected because Mayweather is a defensive fighter who would rather sacrifice the entertainment part of the fight than finding himself on the losing end of the game.
Most viewers who watch Mayweather fight as part of a live audience or as pay-per-view (PPV) subscribers, seem satisfied to let go of their hard-earned money to watch the fight—not to be entertained but to learn and be amazed of how Mayweather dismantles his opponents with his extraordinary boxing skill.
Mayweather is not a power puncher nor is he a knockout artist, but his secret in winning all of his 42 professional fights lies on his special skill—call it a scientific method that only he can muster.
Many of Mayweather's avid fans say the unbeaten champion has been successful in combining his boxing skill with his recognizable talent as a businessman.
Knowing his limitations in putting up an entertaining fight for his audience because of his "boring" fighting style, Mayweather relies on his marketing and promotional talent to drum up sales of tickets for his fights.
A case in point is his May 5 fight against Miguel Cotto. Mayweather knows Cotto is likewise less entertaining in the ring. So, he assembled a top-notch lineup in the undercard which include the very popular Canelo Alvarez and Shane Mosley with Jessie Vargas vs. Steve Forbes and Deandre Latimore and Carlos Quintana on the main card.
The power-packed event also features at least five up-and-coming boxers who are being promoted to become future champions.
In contrast, Manny Pacquiao is known for his entertaining fights which is the reason he's now on his way to becoming a PPV king, though he has to surpass the historic Mayweather vs. de la Hoya fight which garnered at least 2.4 million PPV buys.
In many of his pronouncements, Pacquiao says he fights to entertain people especially his avid boxing fans from around the world.
Pacquiao feels sad if the fight becomes less entertaining and when viewers are not happy with what they saw and paid for with their heard-earned money.
He cited his fight with Joshua Clottey in Arlington, Texas, when the boxer from Ghana decided not to engage him in the ring to the dismay of more than 50,000 people who trooped to Texas to watch the fight.
The contrasting styles of these two great fighters will be up for everyone to see on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
Mayweather will be up against Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico for the WBA super welterweight title while Pacquiao will collide with undefeated Palm Spring star Timothy Bradley for the WBO welterweight crown.
