Mayweather vs. Cotto Predictions: Money's Undefeated Streak Will Remain Intact
When Floyd Mayweather signed on to fight Miguel Cotto on May 5, there was a sense of disappointment because it was not what fans wanted to see. Ignoring that small detail, Junito is the right opponent for Mayweather right now, but he doesn't have enough to overcome Money.
Mayweather has taken to the press to convince people that they need to watch this fight because he is a big believer in what Cotto has done. That, and the more people that order the match means a lot more money in Mayweather's wallet.
Here is what Money told the Orlando Sentinel about Cotto:
"The fans should watch this [fight] because in my eyes Miguel Cotto is an undefeated fighter. He fought one guy at a catch weight and another guy who got in trouble for cheating. He’s strong a knockout puncher and he always comes out and fights in a pleasing way.
I’m always happy to go out there and put on a pleasing performance for the fans, the media and the people that have been supporting me for years.
"
Cotto has been on a roll since losing to Manny Pacquiao in November 2009, winning three consecutive fights via TKO. During that stretch, he has defeated Yuri Foreman, Ricardo Mayorga and Antonio Margarito.
While that is not exactly a murderer's row of the best that boxing has to offer, it is not exactly chump change, and Cotto has shown enough to warrant a prime pay-per-view spot like the one he is getting on Saturday night.
Despite Cotto's recent success and Mayweather trying to convince us that this is the right fight at the right time, Junito doesn't have enough speed and power to overcome Mayweather.
While I don't expect to see Mayweather score a knockout victory in this fight, he will take it to Cotto for 12 rounds and walk away with yet another dominant victory.
He'll add to his championship collection with the WBA Light Middleweight belt and put the ball squarely back in Manny Pacquiao's court to make the superfight to end all superfights happen.
