NBA Draft 2012: 5 Prospects That Will Start on NBA Teams Next Year
Every year there are several NBA prospects who instantly make a huge impact on their new teams as starters.
It usually takes a higher draft pick to be an instant starter, and that holds true here as all five of these players will be drafted in the first 10 picks.
Players like Harrison Barnes and Anthony Davis fit the bill exactly and will be the future for rebuilding teams at the top of the draft. Read on for Barnes, Davis and three other players who will instantly become starters once the 2012-13 NBA season commences.
Bradley Beal
1 of 5Bradley Beal helped lead his Florida Gators to the Elite Eight and looks like the top-rated shooting guard in this draft class.
Beal has ideal size, shooting stroke and athleticism to succeed at the NBA level and his talents will force the team that drafts him to start him. He is just too talented to sit on the bench, unless a team like New Orleans or Sacramento takes him.
I see the Portland Trail Blazers drafting Beal and having him as the permanent replacement for retired Brandon Roy.
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
2 of 5Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is one of my favorite players in the entire draft class because of his tenacity and hard-nosed defense. He does all the little things that make players special.
Kidd-Gilchrist will easily be a top-five pick and will be hard to sit on his new team. As the standings are now, he would likely go to the Cleveland Cavaliers, New Orleans Hornets or Washington Wizards. Out of these three, I see the Cavs and Wizards as the best fits.
Kidd-Gilchrist's defensive abilities and improving offensive abilities will really help out the team that drafts him.
Harrison Barnes
3 of 5Harrison Barnes could have been a top-five draft pick if he would have left school two years ago, but he stayed and now looks to be a top-10 selection.
Barnes has all the tools needed in a small forward but needs to be more consistent. Too often he doesn't play to his full potential.
Nonetheless, his ability to score, pass, rebound and defend will draw the attention of a team like the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors need someone to take pressure off DeMar DeRozan, and Barnes could be just that.
Looking at the Raptors, Barnes would have to contend with Linas Kleiza for the starting small forward spot. I say advantage Barnes.
Anthony Davis
4 of 5Anthony Davis is the consensus top player in the NBA draft and will be the first pick. He has special defensive ability, as his length changes the shots he doesn't block.
Davis needs to add muscle on his frame, but that won't stop this soon-to-be rookie from starting from day one. As of right now, the Charlotte Bobcats have the top chances to draft Davis.
Davis would instantly become the best center on the team and would form a deadly defensive duo with Bismack Biyombo for the Bobcats.
Thomas Robinson
5 of 5Thomas Robinson is a classic, hit-you-in-the-mouth kind of power forward that will come in and immediately dominate. In my opinion, he will be the Rookie of the Year next season. He will have that kind of impact.
Robinson is a guaranteed top-three draft pick and will likely be drafted by either Washington Wizards or New Orleans Hornets.
Adding Robinson to either of those teams would easily make him the starting power forward and would dramatically help their paint scoring. In the case of the Wizards, pairing Robinson with Nene would give them an extremely physical frontcourt.
