Hopkins vs Dawson Results: Dawson Is Prime for Showdown with Andre Ward
One man's loss is another man's gain.
Chad Dawson's majority decision over the aging Bernard Hopkins Saturday night may have ended Hopkins' career, but Dawson's career is heading in the exact opposite direction.
Dawson looked sharp against the 47-year-old future hall of famer. He made Hopkins look slow, old and worn down. He received the regular head butts and cheap shots from Hopkins, but never lost his composure.
""It feels good," Dawson told Max Kellerman about his victory after the fight. "I took a lot of head butts; actually my head hurts right now. He's a great fighter. He's going down in the hall of fame. Now is the time to step my game up another notch. I give all credit to Bernard; he fought a hell of a fight. Like I said, he's a dirty fighter though. If you can get through that, you can get through anything."
"
Dawson is just beginning to hit his stride, and he's ready to prove it against Andre Ward, the WBA (Super), WBC and The Ring Super Middleweight champion.
Ward is undefeated at 25-0 with 13 KOs, but Dawson still wants an opportunity to prove he belongs, according to David King of Yahoo! Sports.
""I would love a fight with Andre Ward," Dawson added. "I think that makes for a great fight. I can make 168, or we can do it at 175 catch-weight. It doesn't matter to me. I want to make my statement; I want everyone to know who I am."
"
Ward heard what Dawson said about a possible future fight and he responded on his Twitter account.
"— Andre S.O.G. Ward (@andreward) April 29, 2012"
Dawson will be able to give Ward issues if the two were to ever square off in the ring, but I don't know if he has what it takes to give "S.O.G" his first professional defeat.
He looked great against an aging Hopkins, but Ward is a different kind of animal to tame. I'm not sure he could pull it off but I would like to see him try.
