Why Edge's Relationship with WWE Needs to Continue

David LevinJun 7, 2018

There comes a time when companies and its employees must part ways.

For Edge and the WWE, that does not have to be any time soon, but it appears the relationship that has been there since 1997 will take a turn when Adam Copeland does not re-sign with the brand and his contract expires.

RingSideNews.com was the Web site that broke the news about Copeland and the WWE's relationship apparently coming to an end.

"

"It appears that Edge is going to let his contract with WWE expire on Monday. The 2012 WWE Hall of Famer was reportedly offered a new deal to remain exclusive to the company and didn't sign it. As noted earlier, he will be appearing at the Resistance Pro Wrestling show on May 11th in Chicago."

Even I can appreciate the talents of maybe the greatest Canadian wrestler ever (sorry, Bret Hart). But the WWE without Edge is like the Miami Dolphins without Dan Marino.

Some how, some way, the two sides need to come together and share the love, sign a new deal and make Edge, who retired way too soon from the business, a part of both brands.

Here are some reasons why Edge needs to stay with the WWE in some capacity.

He Could Help Put Young Stars Over

This is something CM Punk does well.

Edge can work with younger talents (Cody Rhodes, Justin Gabriel) and help them get even better.

Edge is not a sponge of knowledge and experience and it would be great to see some of the younger talent listen and take guidance from him so they can succeed.

If Edge got together with Rhodes and the training and mental aspect of the business was taught (not like he did not already have experience from his father Dusty Rhodes), then maybe Rhodes would be on his way to the world title.

He Is One of the Most Decorated Superstars Ever in Wrestling

He is as much a legend as HBK, The Undertaker and The Rock. While he may not be as used in vignettes, he still garners more attention than most.

And he is still great for the business.

At 38 years old, there is still a lot he can do with this company and there is a lot he can share with the fans. The vignette with John Cena last week was just one of them.

I love the fact he can still come out (like HBK) and light up the crowds. When he talks, people still listen.

He Can Help Put Christian over Again

When Christian is given another crack at a world title, Edge should be there as a manager or advisor of some sort.

Like Mr. Perfect was to Ric Flair.

Seeing Edge at Christian's side would be awesome and would tear the roof off the arenas.

Seeing Edge at Christian's side, if he were in a program with CM Punk or John Cena, would be epic.

He Is Great for Ratings

I did not expect to see him last Monday night on RAW, but he did mention his contract, which means it was a very big deal to him and he wanted to be in the presence of the fans.

His mantra to John Cena was great, it showed he still loves the business, that time was taken away from him and quite frankly, the WWE has been scrambling to shuffle wrestlers around because of poor performance or shoddy work or injury since he retired.

Did he start all of this?

A "tit for tat" kind of thing.

Edge can now fight the good fight for the good of the company and business.

I see him as a great mouth piece and if he were an advocate to someone like Christian or CM Punk or The Miz, then there could be stable "warfare" and we can all get back to the roots of professional wrestling.

Sometimes you need to take the past and present to make future work.

I can see Edge being a new type of HBK in some capacity as well.
