Hopkins vs. Dawson Predictions: Bad Chad Will Gain Unimpressive Win over B-Hop
Chad Dawson will score a victory over Bernard Hopkins tonight, but it won't be the thrilling kind. If it goes past two rounds without a tackle and a flop, it will have surpassed their initial meeting on the excitement scale.
Even once we have progressed past that point, Dawson figures to have a tough time shining in this one.
Hopkins's style and guile doesn't allow anyone to look good against him. That is why, even in his losses, there is rarely a clear victor.
Don't expect tonight to be any different.
This is compounded by the fact that Dawson doesn't have a ton of punching power. Of his 30 victories, only 17 of them have come by way of KO.
Hopkins has only been down in one fight in his career and most certainly never knocked out. Dawson's chances of dropping the 47-year-old legend are as slim as the future Hall of Famer's trim waistline.
Though I have predicted Dawson will gain the W in the win column, intangibly speaking, he can't win in this fight.
If he defeats Hopkins in a tough, difficult to score bout—that I fully expect to see—people will say, "Chad struggled against a 47-year-old man."
If he by some stretch dominates—which I doubt—people will say, "He better had, the man is old enough to be his father."
It's an unfortunate situation but one Dawson must move past if he is to continue his resurgence back to the top of the Light Heavyweight division.
Hopkins on the other hand, is without pressure.
If he performs well, fans will marvel at his ability to stay relevant and competitive pushing 50 years old—as have I in a previous article.
If he loses, people will say, "He had a great career, it's just time to hang em up."
Expect to hear the latter, though he won't get embarrassed. Because of that, don't be surprised if this isn't the last time you see Hopkins in the ring.
It's the truth, drink it straight
