Hopkins vs. Dawson: Bernard Hopkins Will Do His Talking with Big Win
Bernard Hopkins doesn't need to talk leading up to his bout with Chad Dawson for the WCB light heavyweight championship.
We all know the old saying; "You gotta walk the walk if you're going to talk the talk." That's something I firmly believe Hopkins will do when these two square off in the ring for the second time.
The first time ended in the second round with a no-decision. Dawson shoved Hopkins down the ground, thus injuring his shoulder and ultimately leading to the overruling of what was deemed a Dawson win.
I've never fought professionally, but I can imagine that something like that doesn't feel good to the ego. I have no doubts that an injured shoulder can be quite the blow.
Adding insult to injury is this call out from Dawson, via George Willis of NYPost.com:
"Dawson, 29 and a former champion, claims Hopkins faked the injury as a way of escaping certain defeat.
“I really don’t believe Bernard Hopkins was hurt,” said the southpaw from New Haven, Conn. “He showed that he really didn’t want to be in the ring with me that night. I want to pick up right where we left off. I want to make him fight and hopefully we can give the fans what they came to see the last time, a real fight.”
"
I dare say Hopkins has all the motivation he needs. Not only was he physically embarrassed last time in the ring, but did Dawson have to take it an extra step and call him out as a faker?
Oh, it's on.
Hopkins is no run-of-the-mill fighter, mind you. He's got a record of 52-5-2 with 32 knock outs, which means he's knocked out his opponents in over half of his bouts.
He's a dangerous fighter, he's an experienced fighter, and he's a champion.
Dawson may be younger and may attack with a strong left hand, but he's given Hopkins every reason to seek revenge in this matchup and win.
Hopkins doesn't need to talk any trash leading up to this fight—his actions will speak far louder than words when he knocks Dawson out and secures yet another huge win.
