NBA Lottery 2012: Breaking Down Which Team Needs Anthony Davis the Most
When the 2012 NBA Draft rolls around in June, one lucky team is going to be in position to grab Kentucky's Anthony Davis.
Davis is the clear-cut No. 1 player on the board and is certain to go with the top pick overall in the 2012 NBA Draft.
He's a one of a kind athlete who can have a tremendous impact on the game. Davis will be an outstanding rebounder and shot blocker, averaging 10.4 RPG and 4.7 BPG, which led the nation. The Kentucky product can dominate a game without ever touching the ball, but he's just not all about defense.
Davis averaged 14.3 PPG and shot 62.3 percent from the floor, meaning the kid knows how to finish.
He's the best big-man prospect to enter the NBA ranks in a very long time. Some lucky team is going to land a future star, but it all depends on how the lottery shakes out.
Here's a look at the teams that need Davis the most.
Charlotte Bobcats
Where do I begin with the Bobcats. After 23 consecutive losses and a .106 winning percentage, Charlotte needs an impact player in the worst way.
The Bobcats allowed 100.9 PPG (27th in NBA) and allowed teams to shoot .475 from the floor (29th), so Davis would make an immediate impact for Michael Jordan's team.
Sacramento Kings
The Kings finished with the sixth worst record in the NBA at 22-44, but they finished last in the NBA in both points allowed (104.4) and opponents field goal percentage (.476). They ranked 17th in blocks at 4.9 BPG, but it's way too easy to score on this team.
With all the young talent in Sacramento, Davis's length could immediately get them heading in the right direction.
Washington Wizards
Washington has had some knuckleheads come through the nation's capital as of late, and could use a high-character guy such as Davis. Add to that, pairing his athleticism alongside John Wall could help turn the Wizards around.
New Orleans Hornets
The Hornets are in re-build mode and grabbing a presence like Davis would be huge. They finished with the third-worst record in the NBA (21-45) and were among the NBA's worst in blocks (4.8 BPG) and rebounds per game (41.1).
Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cavs finished 21-45 and will have the fourth-best odds at landing the Kentucky star. Cleveland is a team that needs to get more athletic and better at stopping the opposition, allowing 100.2 PPG (26th).
Cleveland was also brutal at blocking shots, finishing next to last in the NBA at 4.0 per game.
Portland Trail Blazers
Thanks to acquiring the New Jersey Nets first-round pick in the Gerald Wallace trade, the Blazers have the fifth-best odds at acquiring Davis.
Those aren't great odds, but Portland has a slim chance and if there's any team that needs to get lucky, it's Portland, given the way the Greg Oden pick worked out for them in 2007. The Blazers don't rebound or play defense particularly well and Davis can help change all that almost instantly.
