NBA Draft 2012: Players Whose Stock Will Rise Big Time in the Next Month
You've probably seen multiple NBA mock drafts by now, and it's likely most of them were quite similar. Nonetheless, there will still be players no one is paying attention to who will see huge rises in their stock in the next month.
It happens every year with every sport. No matter how you think the draft will shake out, things will drastically change in one way or another.
Call it the Ryan Tannehill effect.
Here's a look at players who will jump up draft boards after the combine and various draft camps get under way.
Terrence Ross, SG, Washington
This kid is an absolute athletic freak and can score however he wants.
If he wants to shoot over you from anywhere on the court, he can do it.
If he wants to dribble around you, he can do it.
If he wants to go back door and dunk over you, he can do it.
Teams value players who can score, and Ross can do that in bunches. He is also a solid rebounder and defender for his size, as he established himself as Washington's best shot blocker and second-best rebounder.
Ross is projected to go right around pick No. 20 as it stands, but that's only because he often shied away from action in college. Once scouts get a real look at what he can do, don't be surprised if he cracks the lottery.
His upside is through the roof, but he's also fairly safe.
Royce White, SF, Iowa State
White is an absolute joy to watch.
He has a lot of size (6'8", 249 pounds), but he was constantly the main ball handler for the Cyclones. Not many players have that type of skill set.
His stock is currently in the mid-to-late 20s because of an anxiety disorder that will likely scare off a few teams, but there's no questioning White's talent.
Eventually, his versatility, ferociousness on the glass and ability to contribute in every aspect of the game will move his stock up to the mid-teens.
Drew Gordon, PF, New Mexico
The former UCLA power forward averaged a double-double for the second consecutive season for the Lobos, and he should see a rise in stock very soon.
He doesn't have a pretty offensive game in terms of moves in the post, but the recent success of guys like Paul Millsap and Kenneth Faried will really help Gordon.
At 6'9", 245 pounds, Gordon has similar size to Millsap (6'8", 253) and Faried (6'8", 228) and plays a comparable crash-the-boards, out-hustle-everyone-and-always-be-in-the-right-place type of game.
Again, it's not pretty, but he simply gets it done.
He screams "late first-round pick," which would be a major upgrade over where he's currently slotted.
