Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
The Patriots shocked the world by trading up not once but twice to grab two defensive players in Syracuse defensive end Chandler Jones and Alabama linebacker Dont'a Hightower. Greg A. Bedard of the Boston Globe has analysis of both picks here and here, and even includes a rough draft depth chart on defense in the Hightower analysis.
ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss goes in-depth on the Patriots' decisions to trade up and points out that the team needed a shot of adrenaline on defense, which is exactly what they got with both of their picks.
Chants of "We want Ingram" rained down in Radio City Music Hall as the New York Jets announced their pick of North Carolina defensive linemen Quinton Coples. But why did the Jets choose Coples over Ingram? B/R Jets featured columnist Ryan Alfieri answers that question.
While there has been a lot of negative buzz about Coples, there are some positives to be found. Chris Gross of Turn On The Jets gives his positive analysis of Coples and points out that some of the knocks against him may be a little exaggerated.
Brian Bassett of The Jets Blog has a rundown of other people's opinions on Coples, including B/R NFC North blogger Andrew Garda and respected NFL scout Gil Brandt. The reviews within are mainly positive.
The Bills made what Jerry Sullivan of The Buffalo News called a "safe pick" in the selection of South Carolina cornerback Stephon Gilmore at No. 10 overall. He says, however, that it will take some time before we know just how "safe" the pick truly was.
Safe or not, the Bills could at least use more talented depth in the secondary, and B/R contributor Brendan Bosko writes that Gilmore will push cornerbacks Leodis McKelvin and Terrence McGee for playing time.
Ryan Tannehill is the Dolphins' quarterback of the future. As I wrote last night, that future could be near or distant. B/R featured columnist Richard Langford agrees and adds that the Dolphins would be wise to wait on starting Tannehill.
It didn't take long for former Texas A&M head coach and new Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman to share his thoughts on Tannehill. According to Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald, Sherman thinks he is a "unique athlete" who has good upside as a starting quarterback in the NFL.
