NBA Draft Lottery 2012: College Stars That Will Struggle at Next Level

Rob GoldbergApr 26, 2012

The first few picks in the NBA draft are players with a lot of potential, but not everyone will pan out as expected.

A lot of stars that were dominant in college will not come close to the same level of success at the professional level.

Despite most likely being selected as lottery picks, these household names will not live up to their expectations.

Jared Sullinger, Ohio State

Sullinger was a double-double machine throughout his two-year career at Ohio State. He was able to use his body to position himself for rebounds and create points for himself on offense.

Unfortunately, things will be much tougher for him from now on.

The former Buckeye does not have the athleticism of his counterparts, and they will prevent him from scoring unless he is wide open.

The NBA is full of players that can jump out of a gym, and Sullinger is unlikely to be able to keep up.

Kendall Marshall, North Carolina

North Carolina's title hopes were pretty much lost when Kendall Marshall went down with a fractured wrist, showing his true value on a team full of top players.

However, Marshall does not have the quickness or scoring ability to last as a starting point guard in the league.

In the NBA, point guards need to be a scoring threat as well as facilitator. Without that threat, the passing lanes will close instantly.

The point guard's vision is unmatched among prospects, but it will not help at this level, as no one needs to stop the ball.

Thomas Robinson, Kansas

The All-American led his team to the national championship game during an outstanding junior season, but NBA teams should worry about this season being a fluke.

Robinson did not play much over his first two seasons when more talented players were in front of him on the depth chart, and he only became the key player on the team when others left for the draft.

He is undersized for his position in the NBA and he will struggle to play defense on larger power forwards.

Robinson's motor will allow him to stay in the league and be a productive role player on a team, but he will not be worth his projected top-five pick.
