Roberto Luongo to Send Mike Gillis a Shortlist of Teams Next Week
On Wednesday evening, sources from TSN.ca reported that Roberto Luongo will be sending the Canucks' management a shortlist of teams he is willing to waive his no-trade clause for by next week.
Mike Gillis stated in his press conference on Tuesday that keeping both Corey Schneider and Luongo on the roster next year would be the "worst-case scenario."
Luongo has never posted a poor season as a Vancouver Canuck, however, he did not accomplish the ultimate goal of winning the franchise's first Stanley Cup. The team has a young and developing goalie in Schneider now, and he has proven that he can perform under tremendous pressure in the LA Kings series.

Luongo had a sparkling career in Vancouver, and he is the first goalie in franchise history to be named team captain. In the summer of 2010, Gillis relieved him of that role and passed the captaincy to forward Henrik Sedin.
Currently, the shortlist Luongo is sending remains unknown. However, speculation of where he will end up has already begun. The Toronto Maple Leafs will be one of the teams on his choice of destinations.
Teams very likely to be on Roberto's list include:
Luongo's relationship with Steve Yzerman in International Competition is very strong, especially after the 2010 Vancouver Olympics Gold Medal. The Lightning are trying to find a replacement for Dwayne Roloson and Mathieu Garon for the starting goalie position.
Toronto Maple Leafs
He has a previous relationship with Leafs management staff, including Dave Nonis and goalie coach Francois Allaire. Luongo is familiar with the East, and he will receive more opportunity to visit his hometown Montréal wearing the Maple Leaf.
Luongo is currently 33 years old and looking for his first championship win. The Capitals might be close, and they could be looking for long-term stability in net, while Luongo could be interested in playing for coach Dale Hunter and his defensive-minded system.
Back in 2006, Luongo and his wife were completely shocked to hear the news that the Panthers had traded him to Vancouver. The Luongo family likes to stay close together, and moving away from that connection was difficult for the star goaltender. If given the opportunity, Luongo will be willing to join the uprising Panthers team again.
Although this may appear to be a very long shot, Luongo may have some interest in joining the Blue Jackets. Being under the spotlight for six years in Vancouver, he may see an opportunity to hide from some media attention by playing for Columbus.
It is well-documented that Columbus requires help in net, and Luongo has been teammates with captain Rick Nash, goalie Curtis Sanford, and he enjoyed working with goaltending coach Ian Clark during his stay as a Canuck.
