UFC 94: What I Think It Has To Offer
UFC 94 is this Saturday night in Las Vegas, NV and I could not be more excited! This is a stacked card from start to finish, which includes a highly anticipated rematch for the UFC Welterweight Championship of the World, pitting Canada's George St. Pierre against the UFC Lightweight champion Hilo Hawaii's B.J. Penn.
Im taking GSP in this fight for two reasons:
1. He's my all-time favorite and I would never bet against him no matter what!
2. I think he wants it more! B.J. seems laid back and carefree, and all this talk about "George I'm gonna kill you, and I'm not kidding" crap that he said on UFC Primetime, give me a break! Get real, B.J. Seriously!
I see this fight going at least three rounds. It's a five-round title fight, but I see B.J. gassed by three. GSP has excellent takedown defence and ultimate takedown power, and B.J. will be slammed—and slammed a good many times.
If B.J. can keep up with GSP (which I doubt) this fight will be great. But GSP will prevail and B.J. can go back to fighting lightweights, which I'm sure he prefers—LOL!
Prediction: GSP retains in Round Four by referee stoppage. Bloody!
Now, even though this battle is the most hyped fight on the card, in my own opinion, this will not be the fight that steals the show.
Let's look at the rest of the card, shall we:
Lyoto Machida vs. Thiago Silva
This fight right here has all the potential to be a true MMA fan's dream. Machida, 13-0-0, is a very well-rounded fighter and should have had a title shot by now, but has yet to.
I can see him coming out strong right away and surprising Silva to show everyone he is for real.
Thiago Silva is also undefeated with a record of 13-0-0 and has just come off a very impressive submission victory at UFC 84 over Antonio Mendes. Both these men are far from slowing down and I don't see it happening in this fight. This bout will be three five-minute rounds of pure talent on both ends.
Prediction: Machida by split decision.
Stephan Bonnar vs. Jon Jones
In all honestly, this fight isn't that important to me. Bonner will come out swinging as usual and try for an early KO. I have really never been that impressed with Bonner, but he does like to throw down, which I like.
Jon Jones is 21 years old with a record of 7-0-0 and is a skilled wrestler along with Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai under his belt. I don't think his wrestling nor his Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu skills are enough to keep up with Bonner's durability and knockout power.
Prediction: Bonner by referee stoppage in the second round.
Karo Parisyan vs. Dong Hyun Kim
Karo will bring " The Heat" in this bout. He is coming off a loss to Thiago Alves at UFC Fight Night and will definitely want to redeem himself. if Karo can get a hold of Dong Hyun Kim, then we will see some sick throws. At least that's what I'm hoping for.
Dong Hyun Kim, with this being only his third fight in the UFC, is still on the proving ground as far as I'm concerned. He beat Matt Brown at UFC 88, which wasn't overly impressive, but a win is a win, right?
He is well-rounded and will try to pull out all the stops to overcome Parisyan's strength and strong punches.
Prediction: Karo Parisyan by TKO, Round No. 2.
And now, last but not least, the fight I am waiting for...
Nate Diaz vs. Clay Guida
Along with GSP, Clay Guida is my boy. He's my fighter. He has a very solid chin and his endurance is off the chart. He is 24-6-0 coming into this fight, so Guida isn't some push-over.
He will totally bring it to Nate Diaz and I think we will finally see Diaz destroyed. Clay with his crazy take-downs should have no problem taking him down and pounding him into the mat. I've never liked Diaz.
When Clay defeated Mac Danzig, I jumped out of my seat. I think this will be the same this Saturday.
I honestly don't see what is so impressive about Diaz. He is tall and lanky and his cockiness really gets to me. He had an okay victory over Josh Neer a few months back, I'll give him that.
But when he tries to box with Guida, I think he will come up short. This is the fight I think will steal the show.
Prediction: Clay Guida by KO.
Non-Televised Bouts
Jon Fitch vs. Akihiro Gono—Fitch by ref stoppage
Manny Gamburyan vs. Thiago Tavares—split decision
Chris Wilson vs. John Howard—Wilson by unanimous decision
Jake O'Brien vs. Christian Wellisch—Wellisch by split decision
Matt Arroyo vs. Dan Cramer—Arroyo by submission
Well, there you have it. That's what I have to say about this Saturday's UFC event. I hope you all enjoy it. Ill be watching it live on PPV!
Until next time!
