2009 Bleacher Report NFL Mock Draft, You Make The Call: Detroit Lions
Every two or three days, for the next 89 days leading up to the draft, I will be doing this segment in an effort to find out who you, the fans, think your team should take in late April. Vote in the poll for who you think should be the pick and I will make a mock draft with the final results and we'll see just how much you know about your team.
Today, on the clock are the Detroit Lions, picking number one. Detroit was the worst team in NFL history in 2008, but those days need to be put behind them. This team has a plethora of needs, and a lot of draft picks to try and fill those holes.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Team Needs:
1. Quarterback
2. Offensive Line
3. Defensive Line
4. Defensive Backs
Prospects for number one pick (in no particular order):
1. Matthew Stafford; Quarterback, Georgia
Stafford is a rocket arm quarterback with all of the qualities you look for in a franchise signal caller. He was a very effective quarterback in a tough defensive conference, and is able to fit the ball into tight spaces.
2. Andre Smith; Offensive Tackle, Alabama
Gosder Cherilous was a nice selection last year, but the Lions' offensive line was still awful. Andre Smith is a great pass protector who can single handedly dominate a football game. He is big, strong, and very athletic for his size.
3. Aaron Curry; Outside Linebacker, Wake Forest
Curry is the best defensive player in the draft, hands down. He is very big, and very fast for his size. He has a nose for the ball carrier, and rarely, if ever is out of place. He is a tackling machine and would make a great trio with Jordan Dizon and Ernie Sims.
4. Michael Crabtree; Wide Receiver, Texas Tech
Detroit already has Calvin Johnson, but Shaun McDonald is a free agent and they traded away Roy Williams, leaving a major hole at the number two receiver spot. Crabtree is Calvin Johnson 2.0, and has bear claws for hands to go along with his excellent size and speed.
5. Mark Sanchez; Quarterback, USC
Sanchez is somewhat of a darkhorse to be the number one pick in the draft. It all depends on who has the better offseason workouts for scouts between him and Stafford. Sanchez's advantage is that he played in a pro-style offense, and has a great ability to throw out of the play action.
There you have it Lions fans. One of those five players will likely be suiting up for your team in 2009, so vote for who you think is the best candidate!
