College Football 2012 Top 150 Players: No. 134 Darrin Moore, Texas Tech WR

Michael FelderJun 1, 2018

No. 134: Darrin Moore, No. 14, Texas Tech, Wide Receiver

A lot of folks have not heard much about Darrin Moore, the 6'4" wide receiver for the Red Raiders—perhaps rightfully so, as Moore only put up 517 yards receiving last season and was hampered by a leg injury. The injury was a shame, because the receiver started his junior campaign like gangbusters, with  221 yards receiving in the opener against Texas State and another 118 yards against New Mexico. Moore injured both his knee and ankle on the same play against Nevada and was forced to miss three full games. In 2012, a now healthy Moore should be one of the Big Twelve's best receivers.

Strengths

The most obvious strength is his size. 6'4" and 215 lbs will get a wide receiver far in today's brand of football, where jump balls are king and defensive backs often barely approach six feet.

The rising senior also has tremendous hands. Prior to his injury, he was catching everything thrown his way by Seth Doege.

Within the offense, Moore also has an understanding for the holes and breaks in the scheme. It took Moore, a Blinn College transfer for the 2010 season, a season to understand the system, but now he has Neal Brown's Air Raid attack down to a science.

Weaknesses

For Moore there is one goal: stay healthy. He is built to play this offense. The only thing that will slow him down in 2012 is another injury. Last year, the leg problems submarined his entire junior campaign, and now, with one last shot, he has to make the most of it by steering clear of danger.

2012 Predictions

Eric Ward and Alex Torres are both back as the top two receivers for the Red Raiders. Last year, neither crossed the 1,000 yards receiving mark. This season, expect Moore to insert his name into that conversation, likely passing both Ward and Torres due to his ability to get open and get yards after the catch.

Moore is the best receiver on this ball club, and he'll show it in 2012 as the Red Raiders get back into the bowl mix following a disappointing 2011 campaign.
