Game 18 Recap: Jake Peavy Overpowering as Chicago Blanks Oakland A's 4-0
Some nights, you just have to tip your hat to the other guy in baseball. Jake Peavy was simply fantastic, throwing a three-hit shutout and back-to-back home runs by Adam Dunn and Paul Konerko were plenty as the White Sox beat the A's 4-0 at the Coliseum.
Peavy struck out five and walked two en route to his sixth career shutout and his third with Chicago. Bartolo Colon took the loss despite only allowing two runs on seven hits in seven innings. He falls to 3-2 on the season.
The game shaped up as a pitcher's duel until Dunn launched a leadoff home run to right field. Konerko followed by going opposite field to right to make it 2-0. Both pitchers would throw zeros for the rest of their respective nights.

Peavy kept the A's off balance all night with the movement of his fastball and cutter. The White Sox scored two insurance runs, aided partially by the second of two errors by new Athletics third baseman Luke Hughes. The only hits for the A's came from Jemile Weeks in the fourth, a Yoenis Cespedes double in the seventh and a Coco Crisp single in the ninth.
Good: Bartolo Colon. Hard luck loss tonight. He was good, but Peavy was just fantastic. Once again displaying good control, 63 of his 89 pitches went for strikes.
Bad: Fautino de los Santos. He has not been very good in his last 3-4 appearances. Jordan Norberto bailed him out the last two, but relief could not be spelled D-L-S tonight. He faced four batters and did not retire one.
Ugly: The A's lineup. Three hits. No runs. Never really had much of a rally all night. They were dominated, and this rekindles the theme of the year, which is a punchless offense much of the time.
Now 8-10, the A's look to get back on track Tuesday night as Tom Milone faces Chicago's Gavin Floyd. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
