Jon Jones vs. Rashad Evans Results: Bones' Big Win Cements Legendary Legacy
If you weren’t sure before Saturday night, now you know—Jon “Bones” Jones is the best fighter in the UFC.
Last night against a strong challenger in Rashad Evans, Jones was a freak of nature, landing blow-after-blow with his ridiculous reach advantage. There was no question who the better fighter was as he landed elbows and kicks with incredible efficiency.
According to Compustrike (h/t Ithaca Journal), Jones issued more blows than Evans in all five rounds. During the 25-minute bout, Jones registered 112 blows to only 56 for Evans.
With a ridiculous 84.5’’ reach, he is able to keep his opponents at bay with punishing elbows and kicks that can’t be matched by opponents with shorter wingspan…which is everyone.
Retaining his lightweight belt, Jones joins Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz and Frank Shamrock as the only fighters to retain the belt at the 205 weight class for four consecutive matches.
His next fight will likely be against Dan Henderson. Does he even stand a chance? After beating the likes of Fedor Emelianenko, Mauricio Rua, Rafael Cavalcante and Renato Sobral, Dana White feels he is ready to take the next big step. But there is no doubt Henderson is going to need a small miracle to compete with “Bones.”
Jones is only 24, but he's on top of the UFC world. He has passed every test with flying colors (and elbows) and is now the undisputed, pound-for-pound best fighter in the sport. If he keeps up this current level of dominance for another two matches, we are looking at potentially the greatest fighter in the history of the sport.
The sky is the limit for Jones and it’s hard to see anybody standing in his way for a looooong time. So enjoy this incredible run because you are witnessing history. The Michael Jordan of the UFC has arrived and he isn’t going anywhere.
