Jones vs. Evans Results: Bones Still Has Room for Improvement Despite Victory

Nicholas GossJun 5, 2018

Jon Jones won a unanimous decision over Rashad Evans Saturday night in Atlanta, GA but even though he retained his UFC light heavyweight title, he still has plenty of room for improvement following UFC 145.

Jones should have destroyed Evans because he had a superior advantage in size and strength, but give Evans a lot of credit because he refused to back down.

While Jones' performance was very good, especially in the later rounds, the first round wasn't his best and he was lucky Evans did not make him pay.

Evans was able to land some big punches in early, and this certainly gave him the confidence he needed to prolong the fight as long as possible.

After all the promotion and hype leading into UFC 145's main event between these two fighters, many expected Jones to come out of the gate and dominate Evans early.

However, Jones wasn't as aggressive as he needed to be in the opening round but luckily he wasn't facing an opponent able to punish him for his lack of intensity early on.

If Jones wants to successfully defend his belt this year, he must start out his fight a lot better. UFC star Dan Henderson could be the next fighter to challenge Jones and his belt, and if Henderson attacks Jones early, "Bones" could be in trouble.

Jones was labelled as a juggernaut that wouldn't be stopped by Evans, and even though he won, the fight was closer than many would have imagined.

Jones is a very talented fighter, but his victory over Evans proved he still has room for improvement. Dominating the first round will be a key for Jones in his next fight.
