Herm Edwards Becomes the Latest NFL Head Coach To Be Fired
Herm Edwards became the latest head coach in the NFL to join the unemployment list as the Kansas City Chiefs announced his firing on Friday, making him the sixth head coach to be fired since the end of the regular season.
Edwards joined the Chiefs in 2006 after being acquired from the New York Jets for a fourth-round draft pick. He went 15-34 in three seasons with the Chiefs.
These are not the best statistics considering he took the team to the playoffs in his first season as head coach.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
The Chiefs finished second in the AFC West in the 2006 regular season with a 9-7 record and an opening-round matchup against Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts. Even though the Chiefs lost 23-8, the future had high hopes for the replacement of the great Dick Vermeil.
It is no surprise the Chiefs parted ways with Edwards as the Chiefs went a disappointing 6-26 over the next two seasons.
Prior to joining the Chiefs, Edwards spent five seasons with the New York Jets as head coach. Despite a 41-44 record with the Jets, he was able to lead them to three playoff appearances. However, the Jets never made it past the divisional round of the playoffs.
Edwards will leave the Chiefs with memories that he most likely would like to forget. At one point between the 2007-2008 seasons, the Chiefs lost 12 consecutive regular season games.
The team was expected to a playoff contender this season. Twelve-year veteran Tony Gonzalez has built a reputation as one of the best tight ends in the league.
From 2005-2006, running back Larry Johnson rushed for over 3,500 yards and 37 touchdowns. With all of the talent on the offense, why wouldn't the Chiefs be considered playoff contenders?
The Chiefs finished the 2008 season at the bottom of the AFC West with a disappointing 2-14 record. Edwards has dealt with numerous issues over the last couple of years at quarterback. He has faced criticism for the way he coaches his players and prepares them in the offseason.
Despite four playoff appearances in eight career seasons as a head coach, Edwards' 54-74 career record as a head coach will most likely not be good enough to land him another head coaching job in the NFL anytime soon.
The good thing for Edwards is he has over 20 years of experience as a coach in the NFL.
It would be no surprise if he is picked up as some type of coordinator by a different team over the next couple of weeks.
