2012 NFL Draft Projections: Predicting Each Team's First 3 Rounds of Picks
The 2012 NFL draft is almost upon us, roughly one week away. The personal visits are winding down and NFL teams are doing their best to set up smokescreens to divert the focus away from the players that they are truly interested in drafting.
That cloak of mystery and intrigue is one of the hidden beauties of every NFL draft. There are always some surprises, as teams will intentionally try to make everybody think they are heading down one path, when that is truly the furthest thing from the truth.
We are going to attempt to predict the first two days of the 2012 NFL Draft, every pick from No. 1 overall down to No. 95. Some of these predictions will come true, some will go higher than we predict and some will go lower than predicted. That is just the nature of draft predictions.
We will end the presentation with three slides that provide an overview of each of the first three rounds of the mock draft.
On to the predictions, the presentation and the mocking.
Sources of Information
1 of 36Rather than consult my "Magic 8 Ball," we instead looked at mock drafts conducted by Draftek.com and the big board at National Football Post, as well as the big board by Matt Miller from Bleacher Report to lend a hand as to potential players for these selections.
In case you are saying to yourself that there is no way in heck that so-and-so will be drafted there, well that is because I was using the above sources to help keep my selections in the proper neighborhood, so there is in fact some cognitive basis for these picks.
Since there are three sources in play here, there are also three different opinions to select from. Therein lies the beauty of mock drafts.
If you would like to check these sources out for yourself, you can find the link to the National Football Post big board right here. As for the greatest and latest computer-simulated mock draft at Draftek.com, you can find that link right here.
And last, but certainly not least, here is the link to Bleacher Report's very own Matt Miller's "Final Big Board" article that was published on 4/16/12. Here is the link to the big board at Draftek.com.
To give you an idea of how wildly different the opinions can vary out there, here are the top 10 players on the draft board of our three sources. (Code is as follows: MM = Matt Miller, NFP = National Football Post and DT = Draftek.)
Overall Pick No. 1 - MM (Andrew Luck), NFP (Andrew Luck) and DT (Andrew Luck). So far, so good.
Overall Pick No. 2 - MM (Robert Griffin III), NFP (Morris Claiborne) and DT (Matt Kalil). The fun begins.
Overall Pick No. 3 - MM (Trent Richardson) NFP (David DeCastro) and DT (Robert Griffin III).
Overall Pick No. 4 - MM (Matt Kalil), NFP (Trent Richardson) and DT (Trent Richardson).
Overall Pick No. 5 - MM (Morris Claiborne), NFP (Michael Brockers) and DT (Justin Blackmon).
Overall Pick No. 6 - MM (David DeCastro), NFP (Matt Kalil) and DT (Morris Claiborne).
Overall Pick No. 7 - MM (Alshon Jeffery), NFP (Coby Fleener) and DT (Riley Reiff).
Overall Pick No. 8 - MM (Nick Perry), NFP (Robert Griffin III) and DT (Luke Kuechly).
Overall Pick No. 9 - MM (Michael Brockers), NFP (Luke Kuechly) and DT (David DeCastro).
Overall Pick No. 10 - MM (Michael Floyd), NFP (Quinton Coples) and DT (Quinton Coples).
A couple interesting players to compare and contrast, and trust me there are many more.
WR Alshon Jeffery: MM (No. 7 overall), NFP (No. 99 overall), DT (No. 52 overall).
TE Coby Fleener: MM (No. 16 overall), NFP (No. 7 overall), DT (No. 32 overall).
These examples illustrate how one player can be viewed so differently across the board. You just wonder if they were watching the same game tape or completely different games.

Thanks to the trade with the St. Louis Rams, the Redskins have the rights to draft the second player in the 2012 NFL Draft, which seems like it will be Robert Griffin III. The Redskins now only have two draft picks in the first three rounds, so they will have to come up with a good player at No. 69.
The Redskins need a quarterback, guard, offensive line depth, safety, linebacker and defensive end.
