WWE: 7 Reasons Why It's Too Early for John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar

Gone Baby GoneApr 18, 2012

We are just one week shy from seeing one of the biggest matches in WWE history.

That being said, how many of you plan on buying WWE's latest pay-per-view offering, Extreme Rules?

I for one would love to see John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar, but I just shelled out nearly 70 bucks two weeks ago for WrestleMania.

And with two kids and a mortgage, it's highly unlikely I will be able to watch this match.

Which leads me to the topic of this article. The WWE has done a great job building up this match, as both Cena and Lesnar have been great on the mic and in the ring.

In fact, I think it's safe to say that there's not a wrestling fan in the world who isn't anticipating this match. I realize the WWE wants to build off of there momentum coming off of WrestleMania, but I feel this match is happening way too soon.

That being said, here are seven reasons why it's too early for this match.

Remember, if you like what you have read, don't be shy, become a fan.

WrestleMania

1 of 7

We are literally less than a month separated from the biggest pay-per-view of the year.

In fact, the WWE reported record numbers for the event, and it's very unlikely they will have half of the viewers for Extreme Rules.

Buildup

2 of 7

As I mentioned before, the WWE has done a great job at building up this match.

However, I feel this buildup could have lasted throughout the summer and could have culminated at SummerSlam.

We just witnessed the WWE successfully pull off the longest buildup of a pay-per-view in their history, so why not follow it up with another one?

The fact is, these two have some history. In fact, Lesnar was Cena's first real main-event feud.

I think it's safe to say that this feud catapulted Cena into the main-event scene, so the WWE could easily use their past to build a future match.

Potential Feuds

3 of 7

Both Lesnar and Cena need a feud in order to keep relevant.

To me, Lesnar could have easily attacked Triple H, or The Big Show, at WrestleMania, or at the following night's RAW.

Let's face it, even The Miz would have been a better first opponent for Lesnar.

All three men are legitimate competition for Brock and it would've allowed him to build up some victims before facing Cena.

Longevity

4 of 7

One has to wonder how long these two can battle it out before fans tire of this feud.

I personally do not feel that this feud can withstand a long haul.

Especially considering Lesnar only inked a one-year deal and this is his first match out of the gate.

Injury Potential

5 of 7

Let's face it, Lesnar is an extremely physical fighter and the chances for injury are high.

So why would the WWE want to risk either of these two getting injured so soon after WrestleMania?

Buy Rates, Buy Rates, Buy Rates

6 of 7

I have said it before and I will say it again, the current state of WWE's pay-per-view schedule is antiquated.

Especially considering we all know which pay-per-views the WWE really puts effort into and which ones are throwaways.

To me, they should scale back to six pay-per-views a year. This would allow fans some breathing room in between to save up for these events and allow the WWE some time to build a proper storyline.

This would ultimately produce more consistent and better buy rates.

Match Quality

7 of 7

We have not seen Lesnar in any ring since December, so who knows what kind of shape he is in.

Don't get me wrong, he is probably ready to go. However, I really feel he could use a few warm-up matches to ensure that this match will be as good as advertised.
