20 Burning Questions for the 2013 College Football Recruiting Class
We have a ton of questions surrounding the 2013 class. In addition to where the prospects are going, there are other questions surrounding either their recruitment, strengths, weaknesses, thinking and more.
Well, for this read, I'm going to give you 20 burning questions for the 2013 class. These questions are among the most pressing, interesting, fascinating and just downright burning to us as recruiting fans.
Feel free to ask your questions in the comment section and provide any answers you may have. Let's hear 'em!
20. Is There a Consensus No. 1 WR?
1 of 20ESPNU lists Ricky Seals-Jones as their No. 1 WR as does Rivals, but Scout.com sees it differently, as they feel Robert Foster is tops in the nation at the receiver position.
So does this mean Seals-Jones wins 2-1? Or is there just not a Dorial Green-Beckham in this class?
There are even other WRs in the mix like Stacy Coley, Marquez North, Ahmad Fulwood, James Quick, Derrick Griffin, Jordan Cunningham and Laquon Treadwell.
19. Can Anyone Else Get into the Laremy Tunsil Sweepstakes?
2 of 20As it sits right now, it appears this is a two-team race for the nation's best OL. Florida and Georgia are slugging it out for the 6'6", 280-pound Tunsil according to Scout.com.
But can anyone else get seriously into the mix?
Alabama and Florida State would be my two picks here, but when it's all said and done, Tunsil will either be a Gator or a Bulldog.
18. How Will Notre Dame's Final Class Look?
3 of 20Aaron Lynch decided to transfer from Notre Dame, and the Irish have also lost Deontay Greenberry and Tee Shepard already.
This 2013 class is imperative for Brian Kelly, as he must continue adding speed and athleticism to his roster while also just keeping the players in South Bend.
The Irish already have commitments inside the ESPNU 150 and have 10 pledges total so far.
17. Is Ole Miss Logical Choice for Conner?
4 of 20From South Panola High School in Mississippi, Antonio Conner is a 6'2", 200-pound safety prospect and one of the top players in America.
He holds offers from many of the nation's best programs, but he attends a school that is known for producing Rebels—and I don't mean the kind that fight Darth Vader, folks.
I think Conner wants to stay in the state and it's natural to assume he'll eventually sign with Ole Miss.
16. Derrick Henry...a Linebacker?
5 of 20At 6'3" and 240 pounds with great speed and run instincts, Derrick Henry is a Georgia commit and one of the top RB prospects in the 2013 class.
However, ESPNU lists him as an ATH and there has been some chatter about Henry playing LB (via ESPN Insider). I just think the luxury of having someone that big and fast carry the ball is too great to make him a linebacker.
15. Can USC Land a Top-10 Class?
6 of 20Last year, USC netted themselves close to a top-15 class with solid work by its staff on the trail.
With four commitments inside the ESPNU 150 already and only about 15 scholarships, the Trojans are off to a great start for this 2013 cycle.
Max Browne and Kenny Bigelow could be the best at their positions, and players like Michael Hutchings, Su'a Cravens, Vernon Hargreaves III and Ty Isaac have USC on their radars.
14. Where Does Montravius Adams End Up?
7 of 20Adams is the top DT in the country on the Scout.com board. The 6'3", 285-pounder is a super-explosive trench man who can play the one-gap well and make plays in the interior.
Adams may be more athletic than Eddie Goldman. However, I believe he's the most wide-open prospect in the nation, as Adams really doesn't have a leader or favorites.
I think the schools to watch out for are Georgia, Alabama, USC, Clemson and Auburn.
13. Notre Dame or Ohio State for Jaylon Smith?
8 of 20Smith is an OLB prospect out of Indiana who can play with the best of them. He's 6'3", 225 pounds, a solid athlete and will be a starter in college.
His older brother plays at Ohio State, while Smith also has interest in Notre Dame according to 247Sports.com.
Will he go with his brother or head to South Bend on his own?
12. Will Ricky Seals-Jones and Derrick Griffin Become College Tight Ends?
9 of 20Ricky Seals-Jones is the top WR in the country according to many people, as the 6'5", 220-pounder has awesome size and athleticism for the position.
Derrick Griffin isn't far behind, as he goes 6'6" and 215 pounds with deceptive speed and hands.
Both players are so massive at such a young age that they'll likely be in the 240 range with a college strength and conditioning program. Will they eventually have to move to TE?
11. Can Adam Breneman Reel in Robert Foster for Penn State?
10 of 20Breneman is the nation's best pure TE prospect and has already pledged to stay home and play for Penn State. The 6'5", 225-pounder should be dynamic in Happy Valley.
However, he is now tasked with helping lure elite WR prospect Robert Foster of Monaca, Pa. to join him at PSU.
Breneman has said that he is going to help recruit (via Scout.com) for PSU, and Foster surely is one of his top targets.
10. Is Tyrone Swoopes the Next Vince Young?
11 of 20He's 6'5" and 220 pounds. He has solid arm strength. He's a dual-threat QB from Texas who can make plays with his legs as well as his arm. He des what he has to do to win games and competes hard. He's committed to Texas.
Yeah, that's what the scouting report said about Vince Young in 2002.
Interestingly enough, that's what the scouting report says about Tyrone Swoopes in 2013.
9. Is It Only a Matter of Time Before E.J. Levenberry Commits to Michigan?
12 of 20E.J. Levenberry loves Michigan and Michigan loves E.J. Levenberry.
According to Scout.com (subscription needed), he's down to a final two of Florida State and Michigan. The Wolverines have been looking good for Levenberry for a long time now.
While Florida State is heavy in the mix, in this case it's only a matter of time before Levenberry picks Big Blue.
8. Is Thomas Tyner Really the Fastest Player in the Country?
13 of 20Tyner is a 6'0", 205-pound running back from Oregon who is committed to the Ducks. He's fast enough to warrant his track status of possibly competing in the Junior Olympics.
However, players like Kailo Moore, Dontre Wilson, Robert Foster and Tramel Terry would have something to say about who's the fastest in the country for 2013.
7. Is Christian Hackenburg Better Than Max Browne?
14 of 20Many view Max Browne as the nation's No. 1 QB prospect this year. He's 6'5", has great mechanics, good arm strength, accuracy and more.
That's why it's shocking to see that the USC commit was only the third-best QB on the ESPNU 150 board yesterday.
Tyrone Swoopes was the No. 1 QB, but he's labeled as a dual-threat guy. The top pocket passer on the board is Christian Hackenburg, while Browne checks in as the No. 2 pocket passer.
6. Could USC Let Su'a Cravens Slip out of Its Grasp?
15 of 20Su'a Cravens is one of the top players in the country, as he's an athletic player at 6'1" and 205 pounds.
From the greater Los Angeles area, Cravens holds an offer from USC and the Trojans have been recruiting him very hard (via ESPN).
Speculation persists that it's only a matter of time before Cravens commits to USC, but not so fast—Cravens also has interest in Alabama, Michigan, UCLA, Nebraska, Ohio State and other schools according to Scout.com.
5. Where Will Robert Nkemdiche End Up?
16 of 20The nation's best prospect is down to Alabama, Ole Miss, LSU and Clemson for his services. I doubt he commits on May 18th, as originally planned (via ESPN).
Where does the best player in the country end up?
4. What Will Vernon Hargreaves III Do?
17 of 20The No. 1 CB in the country, Vernon Hargreaves III is the son of USF's defensive ends coach.
The younger Hargreaves has interest in many schools, including in-state Florida and USF (per ESPN).
Will he go play in Gainesville? Or go play with his dad?
3. Is Reuben Foster the Best Linebacker Prospect Ever?
18 of 20We've seen some amazing linebacker prospects in recruiting over the years. From D.J. Williams in the early 2000s, to Willie Williams, Rey Maualuga, Manti Te'o and more.
There's a chance that Reuben Foster is better than all of them.
Folks, you may be—just may be—looking at the greatest linebacker prospect we've seen in college football recruiting.
2. Is Robert Nkemdiche the Best College Football Prospect Ever?
19 of 20Nkemdiche is a 6'5", 265-pound beast that runs a 4.5 40 and is uber-powerful. His frame is of a Greek god and he's just vicious on the field.
He's the most complete DE prospect in recent years and probably is better than Jadeveon Clowney, Mario Edwards and Noah Spence.
There's a chance that Nkemdiche is the best prospect we've seen—not just for DEs, but overall.
1. Who Will Have the No. 1 Class in 2013?
20 of 20This is always the most pressing question: Which program will assemble the best class and get the most talent this recruiting cycle?
Powerhouses like Michigan, Alabama, Texas and Florida look good early right now. But we have plenty of time for a surge.
Who'll have the No. 1 class next February?
