Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn and Texas A&M Dominate the ESPN 150
ESPN released its much-anticipated ESPN 150 list of top high school football recruits. As expected, SEC schools are well represented.
Leading the charge of SEC schools with commits on the list is the Florida Gators.
Will Muschamp has commitments from seven of the Top 150, including four from the Top 50. The Gators have been missing a power running game, but help is on the way in 2013 in the form of 5'10", 210-pound running back Kelvin Taylor. Taylor, from Glades Day High School in Belle Glade, Fla., is ranked as the No. 22 player in the country.
Georgia is right on Florida's heels with six commitments on ESPN's list. The star of that group is running back Derrick Henry out of Yulee, Fla. I recently profiled some of the stars of Georgia's 2013 class on Bleacher Report's Full Ride.
Nick Saban's Alabama program already has also received verbal pledges from six of the Top 150. Headlining that group is linebacker Reuben Foster, who—ironically—is from Auburn High School in Auburn, Ala. The 6'2", 242-pounder committed to the Tide back in July of 2011, but recently transferred to Auburn High School from Troup High School in LaGrange, Ga.
Speaking of Auburn, the Tigers have the commitments of five players in the list, including two in the Top 10—defensive linemen Dee Liner and Carl Lawson. Liner is a 6'3", 270-pound monster in the middle and Lawson is a 6'3", 240-pound speed-rushing defensive end from Milton, Ga. I profiled the stars of Auburn's 2013 recruiting class for Bleacher Report's Full Ride last week.
There's no shortage of talent in the state of Texas, and SEC newcomer Texas A&M is proving that with five commitments of their own from the list. Headlining that group is 6'6", 217-pound tight end Derrick Griffin, who chimes in at No. 28. With height like that, Griffin will provide a nice target in Kevin Sumlin's air-raid offense.
It should come as no shock that Grayson (Ga.) High School defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche tops the list. The 6'5", 265-pound defensive end is the consensus No. 1 player across all major recruiting services. He is announcing his decision on May 18, and has narrowed his choices down to Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, Georgia and Clemson.
