Grading Robert Nkemdiche and the 2013 ESPNU 150 5-Star Prospects
The ESPNU 150 is out. This is a big day for the 2013 recruiting cycle, as ESPNU does a pretty solid job of watching film of a ton prospects, carefully grading them, rating them and ranking them on their top 150 board.
For this read, I'm not going to beat around the bush, I'm going straight for the jugular by discussing who got the coveted 5-star ratings. Some players will be shockers, some will be expected.
Without further ado, here are the 5-star prospects inside the ESPNU 150.
7. Ricky Seal-Jones, WR
1 of 7A Texas pledge, Seals-Jones is ranked No. 7 overall by ESPNU and it's not a shock at all that he got a full 5 stars.
Scout.com gave him this honor earlier this year and Rivals has him as their No. 13 overall player. A 6'5", 215-pounder, RS-J is a WR prospect from Texas with incredible size, length, athleticism and play speed. He's the top WR on the ESPNU 150.
Grade: A
6. Mackenzie Alexander, CB
2 of 7Alexander checks in at No. 6 overall and is a 5-star prospect on the ESPNU 150.
He's a 5'11", 175-pound CB prospect from Florida that is ranked a little too high for my preference. Scout.com lists him just 72nd on their board, while Rivals has him at No. 56.
Grade: B-
5. Carl Lawson, DE
3 of 7The Auburn commit is the No. 5 overall prospect in the nation for 2013 on the ESPNU 150.
6'3", 240 pounds and a solid pass rusher, Lawson is just 180th on Scout.com's board and 91st on the Rivals.com board. There seems to be a big difference of opinion on Lawson by the three major recruiting sites.
Grade: C
4. Vernon Hargreaves III, CB
4 of 7Hargreaves is the top DB in the country 2013 on the ESPNU 150 board, which comes as no shock. He's the top cover corner on my board as well.
The son of a coach, Hargreaves is a technician on the perimeter with excellent feet, athleticism, hips and instincts. He's got a great respect for the game and has offers from many of the nation's best programs.
Grade: A
3. Laremy Tunsil, OT
5 of 7Tunsil makes it a trifecta on the OL board as all three major sites have now officially listed him as their top OL prospect for 2013.
The 6'6", 280-pounder is a raw yet uber-athletic OT prospect with natural knee bend, mirror ability, quick feet and a frame than will tack on 30 pounds with ease.
Grade: A
2. Reuben Foster, LB
6 of 7Foster, a 'Bama pledge, is officially ranked as the nation's second best player by all three major recruiting sites. He also sits at No. 2 on my board too.
The 6'2", 240-pound linebacker is college-ready now, as he has the size, frame, strength, play speed, instincts, vision, lateral quickness and tackling technique to start for any program as a true freshman.
Grade: A
1. Robert Nkemdiche, DL
7 of 7ESPNU grades Nkemdiche as a 94 out of 100, as he takes the expected No. 1 overall prospect honors for 2013 in the ESPNU 150.
6'5" and about 270 pounds, Nkemdiche can play for a team right now. He's as strong as a bull and as athletic, agile and fast as an ostrich. Once he adds to his pass rush plan and hones down his technique, he'll probably be in the NFL.
