Tony Romo, Tiger Woods and the Most Criticized Figures in Sports
Tony Romo might be the most criticized player in sports when the fall months roll around in Dallas. He's not alone as there are athletes all over who are in this same elite group with him.
This group is filled with athletes from all over the sports world who have been criticized since they started playing their respective sports.
Here is a list of present athletes who have some of the hardest critics known to man.
Kwame Brown
1 of 7Drafted first overall by one of the best players to touch the hardwood Michael Jordan, Kwame Brown was supposed to be the next big thing. Straight out of high school, Brown's expectations were out the this world, but he never could live up to them.
Brown has been on multiple teams in his career from the Washington Wizards, Charlotte Bobcats and now the Golden State Warriors.
Even though Brown was a virtual bust in the league, teams continue to take chances on him and pay him big money.
This past offseason, the Warriors signed Brown to a one year, $7 million deal and haven't got their money's worth yet. This move has a lot of critics back on Browns case again trying to find out the reason for the big contract.
Criticism- An overpaid athlete who hasn't lived up to his expectations of being the first high school player drafted No. 1 overall.
Tim Tebow
2 of 7Since graduating high school, Tim Tebow has been faced with the criticism of him being big enough to play quarterback at the University of Florida. From there, people have continued to follow him and Tebow has continued to keep proving the doubters wrong.
Now taking over New York, all eyes are on Tebow as he starts training camp with the New York Jets. Since he was drafted to the NFL, everybody wanted him to move to running back, full back and even wide receiver but he still stays at quarterback.
He might not be the prototypical quarterback, but Tebow is a gamer and will do what ever he has to do to win.
Criticism- Cant throw the ball and not a true quarterback in the NFL.
Tiger Woods
3 of 7Tiger Woods is no stranger to criticism since he took over the golf world as a baby face teenager. From his personal life to his professional career, Woods has been more criticized than the sport of golf itself.
After winning his first tournament since 2009 at the Arnold Palmer invitational earlier this month, the craziness started all over for Woods. Before it was all about if Tiger could ever win again, but when he won expectations became even higher.
With the Masters coming and going, Woods was supposed to be the favorite to win and begin his hunt to catch Arnold Palmer for most tournament wins. This clearly didn't happen for Woods, who struggled the whole weekend.
Until Woods catches Palmer for the most tour wins, he will always have all eyes on every birdie attempt.
Criticism- Will he ever catch Arnold Palmer for most tournament wins and is he the best player to pick up a golf club.
Alex Ovechkin
4 of 7Being in the nation's capital and being the star of the city means all eyes are instantly on you.
This is everything that Alex Ovechkin is dealing with playing for the Washington Capitols.
After being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2005, Ovechkin was expected to do the unthinkable for the Caps—win a championship. In his rookie season, the Russian superstar recorded one of the best NHL seasons, scoring 52 goals and 52 assist to later win the Calder Memorial trophy for best rookie.
Ovechkin continued to rack up on awards over the season with multiple MVP awards and even the key to the city of D.C., but never could reach the Stanley Cup finals.
A lot of athletes will never win championships, but the lifestyle that Ovechkin lives would let you think he has multiple rings. That's where his biggest critics arise, critiquing the way he handles himself off the ice with fast cars and partying and supermodel girlfriends.
His personal life shouldn't matter but Ovechkin is the captain of the Capitals, who haven't been past the second round.
Criticism- Living a rock-star lifestyle off the ice and not producing wins to elevate Captials to the Stanley Cup finals.
Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather
5 of 7Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather could bring the boxing world back to its glory days with one fight. But for now, it looks like they will never fight so they both deserve a to be the most criticized athletes in the boxing world.
We will never know why both combatants wont fight so they both take equal blame. Money should never be an issue for two athletes who are at the top of their game and still will end up with a nice payout.
What if Muhammed Ali and Joe Frazier never fought because of the money?
Criticism- Not fighting each other because of different negotiation problems.
Lebron James
6 of 7LeBron James will always be the most criticized players to put the basketball in the hoop.
First, it was being the best prep athlete to come straight to the NBA, now its when will he win a ring?
LeBron has been under a microscope before he was even in the NBA. He has handled the critics well, winning multiple MVPs and numerous All-Star selections, but zero championships.
After disappearing in the fourth quarter in the NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks last year, James became one of the most criticized people in the nation.
This might be for the simple fact earlier that season, after "The Decision'" him and the rest of the big three in Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh guaranteed multiple rings.
Criticism- Cant win the big games and hasn't won a NBA ring in his career even after going to the Miami Heat.
Tony Romo
7 of 7Tony Romo was thrown into criticism just by putting the star on his helmet as the Dallas Cowboys quarterback. Its true that everything is bigger in Texas and that even means the cameras that are on Tony Romo every minute.
After botching the snap that would have advanced the Cowboys in the playoffs against the Seattle Seahawks, Romo has had one of the biggest targets on his back.
Every time Romo makes a minor mistake, it has always become much bigger than it should be, but that's what happens when you play in Jerry Jones' world.
Over the years, Romo has handled the pressure and has continued to improve, but again this year the critics are ready for No. 9 to make a mistake.
Criticism- Choking in the big games and not winning playoff games for the Dallas Cowboys
