A Synopsis of the 2009 Boise State Broncos LOI Party: Chapter 2
Boise State Bronco Letter of Intent day is a true football party in Boise, Idaho. Hundreds of BSU fans cram into an undersized room for a glimpse at these future Broncos, as they sign their official commitments.
This group of football stars is the near-making of a perfect team. Most coaches would be honored to have four or five athletes of this caliber. Boise State University has persevered toward this day, and the future looks bright.
The Oregon Connection
RB Malcolm Johnson
This young man should be called the Oregon Express. He has been unstoppable for the past two years. His asset is his balance. His threat is speed.
Because Johnson is so well balanced, he could possibly sprint a tight rope if asked.
Don’t be surprised if this Johnson runs all over the previous tailback records set at BSU and in the WAC. Grade A+ (because A++ would look strange).
TE/ATH Gabe Linehan
Another purebred born to be a Bronco. Linehan comes from a family of football overachievers. His asset is that he throws the ball just as well as he receives (if not better).
With Vinny Perretta and Tanyon Bissell gone, Boise State will not skip a beat. Linehan’s multi-talented abilities (as well as redshirt freshmen Mitch Burroughs and Chris Potter) will keep defenses in a quandary. Grade A+
The Texas Connection
The eyes of Texas have been upon Boise State lately and BSU fans are happy about that. Last year's freshman from Sugar Land, Texas, George Iloka, did everything.
Iloka tackled, recovered fumbles, intercepted passes, and dared offenses to come his way. Ewing will be just as good with one year of red shirt. It is possible that Burks could play a true freshman role at wideout, and he has been told to be prepared.
With Burks playing right away alongside Pettis, Young, and Burroughs, BSU will be plenty deep at receiver. Look for Moore to red shirt.
Quaylon Ewing
Ewing is also from Sugarland, Texas. He is a great kid, and he brings speed. He was clocked at 4.4 in the 40 (three times with three different clocks).
The coaches feel he’ll “be a good addition to the team.” Speed is good. Grade A-
WR Aaron Burks
Burks offers size, hands, and speed to the receiving corps. It appears that QB Kellen Moore will have some mighty talented receivers.
Look for Burks to see a lot of action. Burks says he expects to put on a show. Enough said. Grade A+
The Washington Connection
WR Kirby Moore
Moore set the record for receiving in Washington state. The reason: He catches everything in sight. This one most likely will red shirt in 09.
However in 2010, it will be “Katy, bar the door” as the receiving corps will be as talented as ever in the history of BSU football. Grade A+
LB Allen Mooney
Mooney is a winner. He just wants to play for Boise State and at linebacker. Coach Pete said he would play linebacker.
We think Mooney likes busting through those lines and making tackles. This one should red shirt. Grade A-
Boise and the Capital High Connection
OL Bryant Thomas
Thomas is a powerful and energetic looking young man. Due to the amount of linemen ready, Thomas will redshirt.
Should he put on another 30 pounds of muscle in the weight room he will be an even more imposing force. Grade A-
WR Geraldo Hiwat
Hiwat may be the thoroughbred of BSU’s receiving corps. One year red shirting and this one will be ready to explode. Grade A+
The Best Of The Rest
QB Mike Tamburo
Tamburo comes to BSU with high praise. His style of quarterbacking will be fun and for teams who study reels in order to combat a drop-back passer. Tamburo will give them fits. Grade A
OT Jake Broyles, 6-6, 250, Foothill HS (Henderson, Nev.)
Broyles is a big physical guy. With one year on redshirt this guy will be more than able to open the door for the next BSU great running back Malcolm Johnson. Grade A+
