Alabama Football: Recapping the Crimson Tide Spring Game
Alabama wrapped up spring practice on Sunday, and the star of the A-Day Game wasn't someone who earned a national championship ring.
It was running back T.J. Yeldon.
Yeldon, who signed with Alabama in 2012 and enrolled this winter, accounted for 179 total yards and one touchdown en route to earning the game's MVP honors. He rushed 16 times for 88 yards and caught five passes for 91 yards, including a 50-yard touchdown catch-and-run.
It's spring, and I never want to read too much into spring football games. However, Yeldon came to Alabama with a ton of hype, and Crimson Tide fans got a glimpse of why on Saturday.
Quarterback A.J. McCarron closed his sophomore season out in style, with wildly efficient games vs. Auburn and LSU. He didn't repeat his performance in Saturday's spring game.
McCarron tossed two touchdowns but also threw three interceptions on A-Day. However, he's not concerned with his performance, according to AL.com.
I typically don't read too much into spring games, and McCarron's performance shouldn't concern anyone. He is still trying to get acclimated to a new wide receiving corps and new offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier. If the interceptions keep happening late in August, that would be the time to be concerned.
Meanwhile, one of the biggest questions for the Tide is how it's going to plug the holes that are littered all over the defense. Linebacker Adrian Hubbard had seven total tackles, four of which were behind the line of scrimmage and three of which were sacks.
Safety Vinnie Sunseri registered an interception and a fumble recovery, while fellow safety Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix had a tackle for loss, forced fumble and an interception of his own. Sunseri and Clinton-Dix are both vying for playing time in place of the recently-departed Mark Barron.
It's reached a point where Alabama just re-loads, and we saw evidence of that on Saturday.
