2012 Atlanta Falcons Mock Draft: 7 Rounds with 9 Days Left to Go
Second Round Pick (No. 55 Overall)
1 of 6Bobby Wagner
Middle Linebacker
Utah State University
6'0" 241 lbs, 33" arms, 9-1/2" hands
40 - 4.46 sec, 20 - 2.64 sec, 10 - 1.57 sec
Bench - 24 reps, Shuttle - 4.28 sec, 3-cone - 7.10 sec
VJ - 39.5", BJ - 11'0"
Bobby Wagner is a guy who fits Atlanta's need for linebacker depth by providing a player who is instantly capable of starting at inside linebacker and playing three downs in Nolan's defense.
He also give the Falcons the ability to move Tatupu to an outside linebacker slot and provide true depth to all three spots. Wagner also fits Thomas Dimitroff's character profile as a four year starter, team captain and senior with no character issues.
Third Round Pick (No. 84 Overall)
2 of 6Cam Johnson
Defensive End
University of Virginia
6'4" 268 lbs, 33-1/2" arms, 9" hands
40 - 4.81 sec, 20 - 2.64 sec, 10 - 1.61 sec
Bench - 16 reps, Shuttle - 4.38 sec, 3-cone - 7.20 sec
VJ - 35.0", BJ - 9'7"
Atlanta needs as many pass rushers as it can get, and Cam Johnson is an all-around defensive end who would quickly earn a spot in the pass rushing rotation. He has one of the quickest first steps in the draft and can run the edge loop flawlessly.
He needs to work on diversifying his pass rushing moves and has to get better against the run but he is a good fit for the Falcons, who need an instant pass rusher that can develop into a long term replacement for Abraham.
Fifth Round Pick (No. 157 Overall)
3 of 6Donald Stephenson
Offensive Tackle
Oklahoma University
6'6" 312 lbs, 34-7/8" arms, 9-7/8" hands
40 - 4.94 sec, 20 - 2.83 sec, 10 - 1.68 sec
Bench - 19 reps, Shuttle - 4.78 sec, 3-cone - 7.52 sec
VJ - 35.5", BJ - 9'6"
Donald Stephenson is the perfect left tackle to be developed into Ryan's blind side protector. He has excellent power and drive in his step but his quickness in pass blocking is his biggest attribute. Stephenson is an excellent long term fit and needs refinement but should be the top pass blocker available at this point. He does have a lot of holes and will need to learn for a few years how to improve all around.
Sixth Round Pick (No. 192 Overall)
4 of 6Duke Ihenacho
Safety
San Diego State University
6'0" 213 lbs, 32-3/4" arms, 9-1/4" hands
40 - 4.51 sec, 20 - 2.67 sec, 10 - 1.59 sec
Bench - 20 reps, Shuttle - 4.22 sec, 3-cone - 6.78 sec
VJ - 39.5", BJ - 10'3"
Duke Ihenacho is one of quickest safeties in the draft this year and would fit very well as the big nickel in those packages. He's an instinctual safety with coverage ability and can cover the deep pass.
He has special teams abilities as well and could end up contributing right away there. Ihenacho may be raw and unrefined but he's got the natural skills to play safety in the NFL.
Seventh Round Pick (No. 229 Overall)
5 of 6Coty Sensabaugh
Cornerback
Clemson University
5'11" 189 lbs, 31" arms, 9" hands
40 - 4.42 sec, 20 - 2.45 sec, 10 - 1.60 sec
Bench - 15 reps, Shuttle - 4.06 sec, 3-cone - 6.60 sec
VJ - 37.0", BJ - 10'2"
Coty Sensabaugh is one of the fastest corners in the draft and is a true cover corner. He's a three year starter and a captain from the Tigers. He's not a ball hawk like other guys in the draft but he is a student of the game. His closing speed is his best attribute and he is a reliable open field tackler. He's a high-floor low-ceiling player though and may only end up as a special teams contributor and defensive depth long term.
Seventh Round Pick (No. 249 Overall)
6 of 6Adrien Robinson
Tight End
University of Cincinnati
6'4" 264 lbs, 33-7/8" arms, 9-3/8" hands
40 - 4.56 sec, 20 - 2.59 sec, 10 - 1.61 sec
Bench - 15 reps, Shuttle - 4.53 sec, 3-cone - 7.10 sec
VJ - 39.5", BJ - 11'3"
Robinson has visited Atlanta and fits well as a late round prospect. He'd benefit from a year or two under Tony Gonzalez before moving into the starting TE job. Robinson needs to get more experience at the tight end spot though, and should be used in two TE sets as well as possibly as an H-back in certain formations.
