NFL Rumors: Best Trade Destinations for Steelers' Mike Wallace

John RozumJun 7, 2018

It would be a hit to the Pittsburgh Steelers, but trading Mike Wallace still needs to be considered.

After all he is one of the better receivers in the game, but 2012 has the potential to be worse with him than without. According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, a trade isn't expected to happen:

Still, Pittsburgh not keeping the trade door open defers any chance in getting something for Wallace. If Wallace ends up holding out and then hitting the market in 2013, the Steelers will have missed on at least a second and/or third-rounder from a trade.

That being said, here are a few teams that suit Wallace the best for this season.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs need another receiver to complement Dwayne Bowe on the outside, because Steve Breaston is the reliable slot man while Jonathan Baldwin is on his way to bust-ville.

With an offense that uses a two-back system in Jamaal Charles and now Peyton Hillis, adding Wallace only makes the play-action that much more dangerous. Kansas City ranked No. 25 in passing offense last season and were mauled by injuries across the board.

Wallace's speed to stretch defenses will leave Breaston and Bowe open underneath and create more single coverage situations. In addition, the Chiefs become more balanced and effective in the red zone.

Cincinnati Bengals

Cincinnati may be a division rival, but because that's the case Pittsburgh could ask for a lot more from the Bengals regarding Wallace. Cincy holds two first-round picks this draft and are desperate to get a second consistently reliable receiver.

A.J. Green displayed the promise last season to develop as one of the league's best deep threats and would only take longer strides with Wallace lined up opposite. The Bengals also need to improve the running game and the presence of Wallace will force defenses on its heels early in games.

Last season Cincinnati fielded a balanced attack, but averaged just 320 total yards per game (ranked No. 20). Against the better defensive teams in 2012, the addition of Wallace takes the Bengals near the top 10.

Buffalo Bills

Much like Kansas City, injuries plagued the Buffalo Bills in 2011, but not until after a 5-2 start. With so much hope built up, Buffalo crashed and finished just 6-10. Through free agency the Bills significantly improved the defense, but now could use one more stud receiver to field a complete offense.

Mike Wallace makes a great complement to Steve Johnson and together immediately create one of the NFL's best receiving duos. Both can stretch defenses, beat single coverage and open up the intermediate game.

There, Buffalo tight end Scott Chandler then becomes more productive and Ryan Fitzpatrick gets blitzed way less. Also, the Bills have a great two-back tandem in Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller; both of which will benefit from Wallace with fewer defenders in the box and faster developed running lanes.

Buffalo is already a legit postseason contender, but Wallace make the Bills legit AFC title contenders.
