WWE Extreme Rules: Top 5 Superstars in Pay-Per-View History
With Extreme Rules coming in just two short weeks, it makes you think about the event's history. Dating back to 2009, there have only been a few shows.
However, they have all delivered in a big, big way. Trying to determine just the top five performers in Extreme Rules history was no easy task. Everybody did such an amazing job. It was hard to leave a few Superstars off the list.
Jack Swagger, Christian, Chris Jericho and a few others just missed the cut.
With that being said, let's get to the best of the best!
5. Kofi Kingston
1 of 5Extreme Rules 2009
Kofi Kingston defeated MVP, Matt Hardy and William Regal to retain his United States Championship.
Extreme Rules 2011
Kofi Kingston defeated Sheamus in a Table's match to win the United States Championship
This man has had a nice record at Extreme Rules. It was always in the midcard, but that doesn't matter. He won in two title matches.
4. Randy Orton
2 of 5Extreme Rules 2009
Batista defeated Randy Orton in a steel cage to win the WWE Championship
Extreme Rules 2010
Jack Swagger defeated Randy Orton to retain the World Title in an Extreme Rules Match
Extreme Rules 2011
Randy Orton defeated CM Punk in a Last Man Standing Match
Yes, he lost in his first two matches.
However, wins and losses do not always mean much. Orton was in the WWE and World Title matches at those events.
That speaks volumes. Last year, he (rightfully) defeated CM Punk to end their feud. All in all, Mr. RKO has always found himself in a nice spot.
3. Rey Mysterio
3 of 5Extreme Rules 2009
Chris Jericho defeated Rey Mysterio in a No Holds Barred Match to win the Intercontinental Championship
Extreme Rules 2010
CM Punk defeated Rey Mysterio
Extreme Rules 2011
Rey Mysterio defeated Cody Rhodes in a Falls Count Anywhere Match
Again, his win-loss record may not be pretty, but it doesn't matter. Rey was in the middle of an excellent feud with Jericho in 2009.
In 2010, he found himself in another great feud. This time, he had wonderful matches with Punk week after week.
Just last year, Mysterio (rightfully) defeated Cody Rhodes to end their feud.
We can only wish him a speedy recovery to make it back for this year's event!
2. CM Punk
4 of 5Extreme Rules 2009
CM Punk defeated Umaga in a Samoan Strap Match. Later on in the night, he cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to defeat Jeff Hardy for the World Title
Extreme Rules 2010
CM Punk defeated Rey Mysterio
Extreme Rules 2011
Randy Orton defeated CM Punk in a Last Man Standing Match
Honestly, you could make a strong case for him being in the No. 1 spot. The man has a nice record but always had big moments.
I have zero complains about Punk at Extreme Rules. With this year's event being in Chicago, you know he will deliver once again.
1. John Cena
5 of 5Extreme Rules 2009
John Cena defeated Big Show in a Submission Match
Extreme Rules 2010
John Cena defeated Batista in a Last Man Standing Match to retain the WWE Championship
Extreme Rules 2011
John Cena defeated The Miz and John Morrison to win the WWE Championship in a steel cage match
He had to win. The man has a perfect record and always came through with great efforts. Being at (or near) the main event level for every show, it makes for an easy decision.
In just two weeks, he will face Brock Lesnar at Extreme Rules. I don't know about you, but I think Cena's winning streak at Extreme Rules will come to end...
