Husker News and Notes
Bob Stoops and Bo Pelini are in a recruiting battle for the services of Andrew Green, a Texas DB.
Black-and-White-Shirts: The Grixby Bros. have been arrested after an altercation in a bowling alley.
A disturbance at a Papillion bowling alley Sunday led to the arrest Wednesday of two former Nebraska football players and their brother, who had planned to walk on for the Huskers last fall.
Papillion Police Lt. Chris Whitted said DeAntae Grixby, 29, Cortney Grixby, 22, and Ronnell Grixby, 19, all turned themselves in Wednesday.
All three were arrested on suspicion of making terroristic threats at Papio Bowl on Sunday afternoon. Whitted said the brothers went there when they learned the mother of DeAntae Grixby’s child was at the bowling alley.
Millard South’s Ty Kildow will walk on next year.
The Millard South split end was forced to the sideline last season after tearing an ACL in a 7-on-7 drill at the Nebraska camp, an injury that happened just days after he posted his speedy 40 time.
And so it was a tough fall for Kildow, who could only look on as the Patriots made it to the Class A state championship game.
“I just tried to stay positive through the whole thing, just stay motivated,” he said.
SI examines the challenges the Huskers face in modern-day recruiting.
To land those players, Bo Pelini will have to work harder now than former coach Tom Osborne did when the Cornhuskers dominated the sport for the better part of two decades. Back then, a winning program was enough to lure recruits, in part because only powerhouses such as Nebraska, Michigan and Notre Dame appeared on television regularly. Now, every BCS conference team plays most of its games on television, and 15 years of the 85-scholarship limit has slammed shut the gap between football’s ruling class and the former pigskin proletariat.
