Tony Parker: Power Ranking Landing Places for Prized Basketball Prospect

Donald WoodApr 11, 2012

As the No. 26-ranked recruit in the United States according to ESPN, senior center Tony Parker has a huge decision to make in terms of where he will play his college basketball. While Wednesday is the day to sign, it may not be the day Parker signs.

Parker’s high school coach Sharman White told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution about the star center’s decision and when it might come:

"

What I’m getting from his family is that there’s a good chance it won’t be Wednesday. I don’t think he’s just quite ready. He’s trying to figure out the last intricate parts of this decision...so he can make the best choice.

While the college basketball fanatics wait for the center’s choice, we will power rank which schools have the inside lane to signing the big prospect.

No. 1: Georgia

With so much focus on staying close to family, the Georgia Bulldogs could get the rare basketball recruit that stays home. And it would be a great pickup for the program.

Not only would signing Parker show other top talent that signing with Georgia is cool, but the success he would bring to the team could also rattle the SEC power struggle in terms of college basketball.

Having little-to-no post game last season was the Bulldogs' downfall, but it could all be solved with one signing. Tony Parker, come on down to Georgia!

No. 2: Kansas

The Kansas Jayhawks are enticing because they are still close enough to home to make trips easier to handle, yet the team is as close to national championship contention as he could get.

With star forward Thomas Robinson off to the NBA, there is no doubt that the Jayhawks have made it clear that they would love—and frankly need—his services.

While it’s true that Kansas hasn't been in on the Tony Parker sweepstakes for long, their late push to the front may be enough to sway the Georgia native away from his Bulldogs.

No. 3: UCLA

As bad as the UCLA Bruins have been over the last few seasons, the addition of a potential star like Tony Parker would put the program back on the map.

The biggest holdup here has to be the travel for the young man. As a kid from Georgia, leaving everything to go across the country and play 2,500 miles from home is a huge task.

With the delay in the selection process, many fans and experts think that he could be seriously considering the Bruins. If he goes to UCLA, that would change the culture of the team.
