WWE: Does the Brock Lesnar/John Cena Feud Hurt CM Punk?
You have to wonder, while everyone is jumping on the John Cena/Brock Lesnar bandwagon for the upcoming match at Extreme Rules, does the impact of the match affect CM Punk as the WWE Champion?
In terms of excitement and “value,” having Lesnar back in the WWE is a true money-making opportunity. But let’s not forget that while the two superstars may be big in terms of marketability, CM Punk still holds top gold in the company.
Is Punk being ignored because of this?

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
The curing program between Punk and Chris Jericho has taken another turn, which personally I am not fond of. The alcohol issues of Punk’s family mixed into a storyline works to an extent, but having him doused with beer over and over again in the middle of the ring was a bit extreme (no pun intended).
While the creative team on Raw is trying to hit close to home and give the angle more “pop,” it isn’t working for me.
In light of the fact that Lesnar has caught “fire” without having to step into a ring yet, it could cause Punk’s storyline to take a nosedive.
Not a good thing for the current WWE Champion. Not a good thing for Jericho, who came back to the company in January and has been involved in a program with Punk since then.
The fact is that John Cena needed a dance partner. He needed someone to really put the whole Rock/Cena thing away. Lesnar does that.
It also allows the angle to cut down on fans and their lack of support for Cena. The “attack” in the ring Monday night was carefully crafted and brilliant—something we have not seen in years, and something that if we did not know any better, I'd say was about two wrestlers who did not like each other.
But the fact remains that while this match (much like Rock/Cena) builds and builds, the excitement of Punk and Jericho could wane, causing problems for the current champion. The Hell in a Cell match between Undertaker and Triple H did not help matters at WM 28 either, and while everyone waited for Rock/Cena, Jericho and Punk put on a better match, in my opinion.
But it did not get the “grand respect” it deserved.
Again, Cena/Lesnar could do the same.
I am from the old school, believing you support your champions first and have complementary matches that make a program and card even stronger. Ric Flair’s matches were made better by the Horsemen taking on other opponents the very same night.
Sting was in matches that were added by Lex Luger and Berry Windham competing in the same night. And The Road Warriors were in matches where the Rock and Roll Express and Midnight Express took on opponents in the same night.
I would love to see Lesnar help Cena get back to the top of the ladder. He hasn’t been in the WWE Title hunt all year so far. Punk has been the king of the hill.
But there has to be a connection to it all. After Cena, does Lesnar set his sights on the WWE Title? Can Lesnar carry the company?
And what is in store for the Punk/Jericho angle to make it more important than anything going today. Because when you look at it, Punk and Jericho are the complementary players, and the programs really should be the other way around.
