USC Football Spring Game: Freshmen Phenoms to Watch

Jesse ReedJun 7, 2018

The USC football program will hold its annual spring game on April 14, 2012, and there are a few freshmen phenoms worth watching.

These young men might not crack the starting lineup right away, which is why you need to make sure to watch this exhibition. They are the stars of the future at one of college football's greatest farms for talent, and it won't be long before they become household names.

Here are the top three players to keep your eyes peeled for when the action starts on Saturday.

Leonard Williams, Defensive Tackle

USC was fortunate to land Williams. He played his high school ball in Florida, and you know how hard it can be for California schools to lure Floridians away from the elite programs in their own state.

Williams is an exceptionally strong young man who sheds blocks like he's trying to save his momma from an oncoming train. He is quick and agile as well, and his 6'5", 265-pound frame clearly shows he will become an absolute monster in a couple of years.

His physical tools are enhanced by his desire to lay it all out on the field. He won't quit, and Williams is exactly the kind of young man every program dreams of having on its roster.

There is a chance Williams will see some playing time in the regular season, so keep your eyes on him when the action starts.

Nelson Agholor, Wide Receiver/Athlete

Agholor is an exceptional athlete who could easily play on defense as a safety, where he would be sure to become a star.

Agholor will eventually become a leading receiver for the Trojans, but Lane Kiffin has other designs for him in the immediate future.

Per Michael Lev of the Orange County Register:

"

Kiffin said incoming freshman Nelson Agholor will get some looks at running back come fall. Jahleel Pinner might too.

Agholor is such a talented young man that Kiffin is just dying to get him onto the field any possible way he can. The wide receiver group is loaded, and Agholor won't crack the lineup as a starter for at least another year.

He is one of the most exciting young players the Trojans have landed in a while, and he will be fun to watch on Saturday.

Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick, Tight End

Like Agholor, Cope-Fitzpatrick isn't going to be seeing the field as a tight end any time soon.

A former offensive lineman, Cope-Fitzpatrick has slimmed his 6'5" frame down to 250 pounds in order to make the switch.

Cope-Fitzpatrick is fast, has excellent hands and will catch most everything thrown his way. His height will be a boon in the red zone as he can make plays up top.

The spring game should be informative, at the very least. I'm looking forward to watching these young men strut their stuff for the first time with the Trojans.
