Masters 2012: Players with Much to Prove After Disappointing Weekend

Wes ODonnellApr 9, 2012

Bubba Watson is the only one who can call himself a winner this weekend, but not everyone lost as poorly as others.

In fact, it is hard to call players like Matt Kuchar and Peter Hanson losers, but the fact of the matter is that is exactly what they are.

But they didn't lose the way Tiger Woods, Martin Kaymer or Steve Stricker lost.

These stars, all top-10 players in the world, finished five-over or worse for the weekend. So did the world's No. 2 player, Rory McIlroy, for that matter.

The world's No. 1, Luke Donald, didn't play well for the week, either, but did shoot a 68, four-under-par on Sunday to get down to three-over. He retains the top spot in the world and will be left off this list.

Tiger Woods

This one speaks for itself, as did his tantrums on the course this weekend and his disgusting scorecard.

Woods made a mess of the par-fives throughout the Masters and wasn't much better anywhere else.

It was a Woods we've never seen at Augusta before, and for the first time since 1996, Woods finished worse than 22nd.

Once again, the chatter of whether or not Tiger will ever win another major will be loud in the coming months.

Martin Kaymer

Kaymer came into the Masters just hoping to finally make the cut, and he finally did just that. Unfortunately, it didn't go too well after that.

The one-time major winner finished tied for 44th and shot a six-over for the tournament.

Now the 27-year-old German will set his sights on the U.S. Open, and he has a lot of work to do to put up a better performance.

Steve Stricker

The 35-year-old American and world's No. 6 player hasn't finished in the top 10 of a major since the 2009 Masters.

That trend continued at Augusta this weekend, as he finished a dismal seven-over, tied for 47th.

He has three top 10 finishes at the U.S. Open in his career, but none have come in the last five years.

If he wishes to make something out of the year's second major, he'll have to start turning it around now.
