Masters 2012: 3 Golfers With Plenty of Momentum Entering The Summer

Eric BallJun 7, 2018

Sometimes all you need is a reminder.

A reminder that you are incredible at what you do, that you can do it against even the best competition.

Bubba Watson may have walked away from the Masters with his first career green jacket, but there are multiple players that leave Augusta National feeling really good about themselves as the meat of the PGA Tour schedule begins to unfold.

Louis Oosthuizen

The 29-year-old had the shot of the tournament when he nailed an albatross (double eagle) on Sunday, and he almost won the whole thing before nerves got the best of him in the playoff against Watson.

Already the owner of a victory at The Open Championship in 2010, this guy knows how to win and is beginning to do so with much more regularity. He already owns two top-10 finishes and four in the top 25 after playing in only six events, in all of which he has made the cut.

There is no question that Oosthuizen is one of the top players to keep an eye on as the season marches on.

Peter Hanson

The native of Sweden was the leader in the clubhouse after three rounds, but unraveled under the pressure of the final day. He bogeyed two of the first three holes and had a shank on hole 12 for the ages. He finished Sunday with a one-over 73, placing him in a tie for third place.

It was a roller-coaster ride for the 34-year-old, but he’ll only be stronger because of it.

Finally all the facets of his game are coming together, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him win one of the remaining three major championships on the season.

Phil Mickelson

Lefty had one of the best rounds of the tournament with his 66 on Saturday. It was classic Phil—lots of gambles with a big payoff.

Funny thing is, he finished tied for third and didn’t even play very well. He had a less-than-stellar performance on two of the four days yet still was only two birdies on the final two holes from reaching the playoff.

There is no question Mickelson is the most consistent threat to win a tournament on the tour right now, and his performance at the Masters is certainly a good reminder.
