Masters Scores 2012: Tiger Woods and Biggest Disappointments at Augusta

Eric BallJun 7, 2018

Tiger Woods might not be back after all.

With the expectations sky-high, Woods registered the worst performance of his Masters career with a five-over (293) finish. His final-round 74 capped off a week of mental gaffes, slices and missed putts.

When asked about his performance, Woods was rather blunt (via CBS Sports):

"

I didn't hit the ball very good this week, and what's frustrating is I know what to do, and I just don't do it. I get out there and I just don't trust it at all. I fall back into the same old patterns again, and I just need to do more reps.

Thank god my short game was good this week and my putting was really good. Unfortunately, they were all for pars, not for birdies.

"

He never notched more than an even-par 72 on the week, marking only the second time as a pro he didn’t break par in at least one of the four rounds.

But Woods wasn’t the only disappointment of the week. Here are two other golfers that had a weekend to forget at Augusta:

T. 32 Luke Donald (+3)

The No. 1 ranked golfer in the world had a weekend to forget.

After a disappointing 75 in the first round, a scoring dispute almost disqualified him from the rest of the tournament. It turned out to be nothing more than a smudge that was hard to read after being faxed to PGA Tour officials (via ESPN).

Two rounds later, Donald woke up on Sunday morning 7 over for the tournament. He was able to get a bit of a bump in the standings with a 68 (4 under) in the final round, but the writing was already on the wall.

You can’t reach the next level of PGA stardom until you win one of the four majors, and Donald is still desperately searching.

T. 40 Rory McIlroy (+5)

With the second-best odds to win his first green jacket, everything seemed to be coming into place for McIlroy. Instead, he shot an abysmal 77 on Saturday, and followed that up with a 76 on Sunday.

The deal-breaker was a horrific 6 over on the front-nine on Saturday where McIlroy seemingly lost the focus that he had displayed throughout the week.

Was something distracting him that we don’t know about?

While there is a long and illustrious career in front of him, times like today remind us that Rory still has a long way to go.
