Blackhawks Playoff Schedule 2012: Odds & Predictions for Opening Series
After an up-and-down 2011-12 season, the Chicago Blackhawks finished with the sixth seed in the playoffs and face Pacific Division-winner Phoenix Coyotes.
The Blackhawks didn't fare well in their season series against the Coyotes, going 1-2-1 in four regular season games. Although, the two teams haven't faced off since February 11.
This matchup in particular has an odd dynamic attached to it.

Usually the division winner has a higher point total and is a favorite, but the Blackhawks' 101 points trumps Phoenix's 97.
The biggest storyline heading into this playoff series is undoubtedly Jonathan Toews and his recovery from a concussion and the recurring symptoms. He has missed 22 games, but is eying a chance to return for Chicago's run in the playoffs. His potential return will have a huge impact on the series one way or another.
Efficiency on the power play could end up winning the series between Chicago and Phoenix, as the teams are 26th and 29th in the league, respectively. If either team can put their regular season woes behind them and get a few goals on the man advantage, it'll be a big boost.
Chicago's big three stars have shined bright since Toews has been out. Patrick Kane, Marian Hossa and Patrick Sharp each finished the season with at least 65 points.
Although, the Blackhawks stars will have some major trouble getting past one of the NHL's hottest goaltenders.
Mike Smith has garnered Vezina Trophy consideration after a great stretch to end the season, posting three shutouts in the last two weeks. He has a .930 save percentage and eight total shutouts on the season.
Blackhawks' goalie Corey Crawford's struggles have been well documented, but he's 8-1-2 since March 1 and seems to be headed in the right direction from a winning standpoint. He will need to be on point to help Chicago to victory.
The Coyotes have home-ice advantage, but are tied for the least home wins among Western Conference playoff teams with 22.
Chicago has been inconsistent this season, but they shouldn't have any problem winning some games in Phoenix and moving on to the next round.
